A bit of news

This is a weird and sad post to write, but it's impacting my work this week so you deserve to know.
High Hill, the bar in which I have worked and hosted game nights for the last two years, will be closing at the end of this month. I am absolutely heartbroken.
The next game night will be the last, though I am considering finding a new venue so that we don't lose the fantastic community we've fostered over a shared love of pints and video games.
High Hill is more than a second job for me, it's been a lifeline. I love the work I do online but sometimes it's a very lonely experience. High Hill gave me an opportunity to work as part of a team again, with some of the best people I've ever had the privilege to call colleagues. I will miss it dearly for the rest of my life.
The news has hit me hard so, with regret, I'm not streaming today and I'm also going to have to put this week's episode of Press Any Chiodini on ice.
Cherish your favourite places, everyone - you don't always know how long they'll be there.

Sorry to hear the news, Johnny. Sounds like it was the kind of place where anyone was welcome, which made it a staple of the community. Not only that, but also it's near and dear to your heart. Sorry to hear about it, Johnny. I used to play in a regular Monday night Poker league - it DID have prizes for the winners, but was a friendly atmosphere, and great fun - unfortunately COVID saw the night die off... Hope you find somewhere else to host.

Being in Montreal, I have never been able to attend game night, but it seemed like a ton of fun!!! And has someone who likes to go back to the same places and had an enjoyable work place with good coworkers; I understand and feel your pain. My heart goes out to you... Take good care of yourself.

I was so sorry to see this news on twitter 😞 I've never had the pleasure of visiting, but my heart goes out to you, the owners/staff, and all of the lovely folks who came to your game nights & the taproom. one of my favorite boston breweries had to close down last year due to landlord BS, so I feel your pain. hope you can find a new spot to host your game nights x

I'm very far away on the other side of the pond, so I can't say I know exactly what the circumstances are locally, but I have faith that someone as cool, thoughtful, and kind as you are would be welcomed to bring the community you've built to a new place with open arms. God knows they'd be lucky to have you. Please take all the time you need to mourn this loss - unexpectedly having your 'third place' taken from you most certainly is one.
