Rosa cocked her head with her eyes closed. She sat at the front desk with her ears straining in an attempt to rotate toward the sound of Wendy talking.
Her ears were trying to focus on Wendy and it was driving Rosa up the wall. They twitched beneath their "jail" in a valiant attempt to turn towards the other woman. Rosa growled and scratched at them before making sure they were tucked away once more. Only a few patches of skin showed at the very tops of her ears. Fur - it was too thick to be hair now - nearly covered the tips. Black fur, not brown like her hair.
"-hurts to walk," Wendy continued.
"Goddamn it," Rosa growled. Her eyes narrowed once she processed her co-worker's words. With her blessing, the new muscles in the base of her ears flexed.
"And what if it hurts too much and I can't walk back?" Wendy said. "I don't want to be stuck outside. No. No, I don't like the gym. There's too many people and it's all weird. It's a weird atmosphere. When I'm done paying more on the surgery, I'll see if I can get a treadmill. No. Mom, no, it won't be too late by then. I'm- I'm sure it'll be fine. Oh! The ringing phone shattered the moment, bringing her back to reality.

"Well. Well, Wendy said I could," John grumbled while shuffling papers in an attempt to show how busy he was suddenly. Busy and definitely unapproachable. Certainly not a shield to keep angry people away from his desk.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" Rosa asked Wendy. "I need to stretch my legs and I could use some non-cookie stealing company."
"She said I could," John muttered.
"I'm not sure," Wendy said. "I- I don't think I'd be able to go too far."
"That's fine since I only have ten minutes," Rosa lied. "It gets boring walking alone."
"J- just ten minutes? Okay," Wendy said. "If you don't mind me walking slowly."
"Perfect," Rosa replied.
After locking her computer, Wendy stood and shuffled next to Rosa. The sound was instantly irritating, but Rosa did her best to ignore it while reminding herself of the reason for it.
The outside air, while filled with chemicals, was still more fresh than the stale, recycled air inside the building and Rosa inhaled with a rough, happy growl.
"Lead the way," Rosa told her co-worker.
Wendy glanced around the parking lot before settling on a direction. She moved slowly, but, again, Rosa forced herself to slow down despite the urge to run. Her golden eyes swept around the area while her ears drew in the sounds, alert for any dangers.
"How is the animal sanctuary?" Wendy asked after they reached the sidewalk.
"Good," Rosa told her. "I got a video last night from the wolf I sponsor. Nikita."
"They send you videos?" Wendy asked excitedly.
"Well. Only if you pay enough."
"That's so cool," Wendy sighed. "And such a beautiful name."
They talked as slowly as they walked with the seconds stretching between their conversation. Wendy led, asking about the sanctuary since it was a safe topic. When she needed a short break from their walk, Rosa went on alert in sentry mode. They both agreed to return after seven minutes.
Rosa could hear the woman's labored breathing with hints of pained groans mixed in. They slowed two blocks away from their office building and then stopped.
"I. I can't," Wendy said quietly. "Rosa, I'm sorry, I can't. It- it really hurts. You- you go back and I'll wait here until- oh!"

A quiet ping announced someone joining her stream. She swallowed and stared and growled.

'Me- me, too," Wendy admitted. She shuffled slowly next to Rosa while Rosa scented the air and glanced around. "Everything's always about him. If- if I talk about something, he'll just try to one-up me. And- and he'll listen in on my conversations and- and try to give me advice. Even if it's a personal call. Or work. He's- he's not my boss. He's just a co-worker. He's the worst."
"Yeah, he's also fucking suck," Rosa growled.

Rosa looked down at Wendy with a raised eyebrow and a toothy smile. "Wendy!"

"No, I think that was perfect," Rosa told her.
Their conversation turned to gossip, sharing who they liked and didn't like until Rosa added what Mr. Steadler had done to her over the years. Wendy was indignant and then angry, the first time Rosa had seen her that way. She begged Rosa to talk to HR, to file a complaint or do anything and she added in her own rare curse word at the man.
Close to the office, Rosa once more wrapped her arm around her co-worker while Wendy continued to rant about the president. Rosa turned to breathe in the woman's scent with her eyes closed.

What did you make the can out of? the earlier person asked before tipping. A second watcher tipped and two more people joined.
