Andrew

Thank you!

PriÀm

Haha. Plus: Kazuki was strong enough to win, he just didn't have the right mindset. Tribulations for Champion are a bit harder because of the race/civilization bit (but they can make them easier with the right Merit)

EnigmaticOne

Only thing that bothers me is if Kazuki can fail tier 1 then what about all the others. He's already a top talent and he can't even get past tier 1. Even if he started earlier than he was ready because he trusted in Priam's reset. But then I remembered that he's not just any tier 0, he's a tier 0 that can fight a tier 3. So his tribulations are insane. Most tier 0's potential runs dry wayyy sooner and likely they only have to deal with maybe 1 or 2 tribulations... Priam and Kazuki are different because their potential and achievements far surpass what they should be able to reach at their level. I was thinking how could the system just kill these talents off, but then again if they do pass their tier up, they could probably just laze around and eventually be able to rank up again to tier 2 and 3 without even trying very hard. Solely riding on their built up momentum and saved up potential, fighting the weakest tribuations of their tier. Only if they did that their potential would run dry and they would wind up only being an ordinary tier 3 or 4 instead of the former Ace prodigies that they used to be. Its up to them to keep up the pressure on themselves to keep ahead of the game despite the System's chokehold and keep grabbing those achievements and nurturing their unique skills. So yeah I answered my own questions, looking forward to the next chapters! Thanks for your hard work!

Yep Priam is playing Mario, not Diablo lmfao 🤣

Hoplite warpath. . . He can evolve that. Better yet, he can merge that with his predation luck skill such that it both interferes with the instincts and intuition of a prey/opponent and also reinforces his own intuition/instincts.

It occurs to me now that Arnold isn't in the story to be Priam's rival. He is Kazuki's rival. Kazuki is the official leader of his people. Arnold rules his conglomerate of Artificial Intelligences. Arnold's homunculi are at war with Kazuki's people. Both of these leaders ended up as champions. Even before becoming champions, Arnold had the advantage. This is the perfect narrative setup for an underdog story of going through a series of extreme challenges to overcome a seemingly impossible situation. It's a classic "Hero gets a quest to slay the demon king" story, but sci-fi. Arnold is the demon-king leading his army from another world to invade and take over Kazuki's home. Arnold is Kazuki's final boss of main-quest storyline. Now that I see it, this makes MUCH more sense than Arnold being a primary rival for Priam. Other readers kept trying to convince me, and I almost fell for it. There was a reason it never felt like it fit. Because it didn't. Of course, Priam and Arnold may have some conflict, but Arnold's destiny is to die at Kazuki's spear, not Priam's.

So Priam grows stronger at their expense? Exceedingly unlikely. They don’t gain anything from it, and they wouldn’t even know to hold him to his word

MomoDG

It does count for 1/3. With Hoplites Warpath are now 2/3 used.

Ihsan Gunay

What happened to spectral familiarity racial talent? Does it not count for 1/3?

Ihsan Gunay

I wonder whether Priam can convince Arnold to allow him to kill him in exchange for some benefit.

_mori

That should be the plan. Hopefully some of his invested trib fragments go to concepts that match up with is upcoming ideal epic skills. His light affinity is most definitely connected to the dark vision one (though it wasn’t a resistance skill)

Baconwargod

Its not that he doesn't think of it he doesn't have time. He got two good days of training and has had to run for a while. Hes got too much to do

Strategist One

I love this. You write so well that i can feel the characters emotions. Thank you so much for writing!

Zaim İpek

All that tribulation concept means he could raise kinetic affinity several times. Getting it over 50% should be very helpful to his intuition for the skill, leveling speed, and creativity in application. He has been slow to realize the potential of the skill, and his low affinity reflects that. I look forward to Priam mastering what Kinetic control can do. Maybe he will finally use it as training rather than gravity. If he uses his ability to absorb a fixed percentage of all the kinetic energy of his body, that would be extremely effective as a training method. It doesn't have the effect of gravity crushing his organs against each other and pulling the meat away from his bones, but the strain on his heart, lungs, and all muscles including eyelids, etc can be pushed to entirely new limits by applying his ability this way for training. It is also a new method to practice control as he can do this for himself and others sparring with him and have the kinetic control set to different levels of restriction so sparring partners are matched in strength and speed. And then using the absorbed energy to counter movement when his absorption is maxed. I imagine learning that level of control, especially for energy cancelation rather than absorption would be extremely effective training. . . but he doesn't even think of these things. I assume because of his low affinity.

I wonder if he can clear all of these tribulations and farm some concept

brennon Petersen

Tffc!

IdolTrust

Sad that Kazuki actually died. But Priam is going to get hella strong from slaying others tribulations. Edit: I had to re read it. I forgot about the rewind ability. So nothing is set in stone and he can give information on how to beat the others tribulations

Wanderer of Worlds

While it was a good chapter, we didn't really get to see Priams anger and sorrow much, so it felt rather detached.

Wanderer of Worlds

He always had access to the Breath Concept. He just never took it for some reason.

Custus

Thanks for the chapter!

Dungeonborn

Guy absolutely deserved it. He started the hoplite philosophy and imo he went against that very concept by accepting the offer made by the seven

Lion Heart

Perhaps, but these tribulations will be much weaker than Kazuki’s so there will presumably also be less to take. Also, interfering during the tribulation is a quick way to die

MomoDG

So Priam can get a new Concept or boost one every time He get's a Tribulation Concept Fragment? And everyone is triggering there tribulations? Sounds like a Concept Farm for Priam. So which concepts will Priam go for in that case? Light is the obvious one. Tier 1 Concepts have the Problem, as previoisly mentioned by the Phoenix Prince, that having more than 2 is difficult at Tier 0 as similar ones will try to combine into a Tier 2 Concept.

MomoDG

Poor Taishi was hard countered by Priam.

_mori

Great chapter btw. The way Priam painfully realizes that a tribulation doesn’t need overwhelming might to be dangerous is both sad and well done.

_mori

Kazuki will still be going in blind for his high tribulation, but we don’t even know that those play by the same rules as lesser tribulations. They aren’t governed by the concepts’ system so they may change if anyone tries to pull a fast one

James Faulkner

Awesome, Tftc!!

_mori

Feel bad for the Hoplites. It seems the Concepts want to force a change in Kazuki, for better or worse. Taishi just isn’t as strong as him. And the 9th tribulation was probably the most dangerous (because it could enforce the outcome of the arena tribulation), but even so, it could probably be overcome in some way. Either way, Kazuki would need to reevaluate what being a champion of Hoplite means to him. Worst case, I think he might even abandon the title of Champion. Considering that the arena is evaluating a battle of champions and condemning one, Kazuki no longer being a champion might be a legitimate way of beating the 7th and 9th. If he’d gone all out from the start, he’d have won easily. Isn’t even a real debate. Priam might be more powerful in combat, but not by so much that he’d easily kill a foe that nearly bested Kazuki.

_mori

So there’s a breath concept to be conceived.

Fiduciam

Damn that was a good chapter. Was so into the chapter and feeling sad/angry about Kazuki's death that I forgot about the loop. You got me good.
