Very good points. I’ll try to address them as the story goes on, as at this stage it is a compromise between showing details of a non–main cast character and keeping the pace. I already have plans for the power demand, which has come up before and will become an issue later (no spoilers :) That said, I really appreciate your perspective and comments. It’s a long story with a lot to take in and plan at the same time, so it’s refreshing to get feedback on what could be improved or what I might be missing.

Pablo's awakening - I'm guessing that's what it is - feels a bit random. Not in what kind it is - more about that in a sec -, but in its arrival, its delivery. Every other awakening so far depended on heavy pressure. Not necessarily in a life threatening moment (see Lukas), not even necessarily in battle (see our resident genius), but pressure nonetheless. I don't see that for Pablo. Sure, he might feel pressured not to be useless... but I didn't feel the focus on that. It might not depend on psychological pressure at all, but more on pressure in a more general sense; like how Pablo pushed his understanding of the creatures, thus building another kind of pressure on the Pillar or so... but still I feel there is missing some focus on the how, on the process. After all, we're the third-person omniscient narrator/reader. Now to the kind of power of Pablo's... it's a jump. Not that I don't like it, mind you. But where we started with pretty close-to-physics superpowers, namely EM control, this now clearly is magic. It might be some Tower-assisted generation via EM waves... but that's pretty far fetched - creating a sword is also only possible in the Stage 1, Level 1 white rooms and Alonso's mind's VR. And also: what would happen to this power in the real world? After all, the Tower is arguably a virtual reality, more simulation than physical truth. I don't reeaally mind this magic thingy, but still it leaves a gap. The last problem with the story I had - the only real other one so far, really <3 - was/is of a similar kind: when the EM powers "upgraded" from physically understandable kinda radio communication*, to more versatility - at the price of that hard-numbers-physics that I like - like floating things via EM where that would need an opposite pole - which earths magnetic field is not enough for afaik. That goes hand in hand with the growing energy demands that are not really addressed. Sure, the Pillar as an energy well kinda does the trick... but I liked when more power consumption was reasonably outweighed by more nutrient demand. All in all I also like the soft-magic streak that's developing, but want to adress said gap it leaves. As for Pablo: I'd like to get to see more of how and/or why he awakened; that's also possible to add in, other than my other issue.

Now let's kick some butt. Preferable before everyone else hauls ass out of the picture.
