Happy late holidays, JV! To answer your questions, they used a tiny vacuum in the pole so the kid's tongue was "stuck" painlessly. And the reason the Dad is being weird on the couch in the presents-opening is that you missed the part where Mom drops the bowling ball on his crotch -- he winces in pain and goes "Thanks a lot!" in a high voice. Then is happy with the present, but when she looks away, is still in a little pain from her dropping the bowling ball in his, er, lap. What really makes this movie a classic is not just the humor, but for me it's the rich characters. Ralphie's brother is a sweetheart (he saves Ralphie's glasses during the fight and worries about him later), and his parents are genuinely goofy people who feel real. I love that we get a final moment of the Mom and Dad together, finally relaxing in a romantic moment. It's a classic for a reason.

Irrelevant to this movie but when you see sonic the hedgehog 3 I recommend you stick around until the very end of the credits.

Jsyk it WAS a camera trick with the tongue being stuck. They had a little suction hole for the tongue. If they REALLY did it the studio would’ve been sued for child endangerment

Schwartz is the kid who was wearing the stocking cap. I'm in New York. Of course it snows here, but we haven't had a white Christmas in years. I heard that Saint Paul just got a ton of snow, and I feel gypped right now, but pretty happy for them, too.
