Christopher Johns

God DAMNIT old man. Need moar.

Aaron Martinez

She can abuse random in two ways: start the chain with an aspect she doesn't have and after her normal chain is over she can random and hope to continue the chain (indefinitely if she's lucky). Starting the chain with random will require a little bit of set-up for those unlucky times when she randoms an aspect she already has, but she can just reset and try again. Both these applications remain useful until she manages to gain roughly the majority of all aspects (or until the length of her chain is so long that one more is unimportant). Basically this skill scales with her roughly forever.

Fortunis

Is it the turtle? I bet its the turtle. 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢

BaguaBrady

lol yes, when you put it that way, you're definitely right

Amber Cabaniss

Agreed, spamming is the way to make that [Cracked] work, otherwise it is just another attack spell and an expense one at that. I think the reason for the [Fireball] is the cool-down time and the sheer mana cost of working the [Cracked] all the time. Also have another spell you know the effects are is a good thing to have. And the author said we are getting a chapter from her POV, so we will see how this will work.

Spicyice101

Wooo! Introduction of my fan created character! Makes me exited!

Stylemys

Could Emily just spam [Cracked Mana Bolt] until she repeats an affinity? Or can she not repeat spells either?

Jonas

Thanks for the great chapter

Stylemys

There has to be a way to capture, store, and release mana though, even from an attack. He just needs a sample to channel into the ring, not a full mana stone.

Stylemys

At Tier 6, Emily has 64 total Skill slots in her spirit; 3 core, 16 Inner, and 45 outer. I think that might leave her a smidgeon of extra space to put some cheap aspected Skills that each effectively double her actual attacks’ power.

Frardowin

aspected mana stones i think is how he needs to do it

SunderGoldmane

I think you could influence the list of aspects that it randomizes as part of adjusting the skill. Like over the course of a year she could probably make it really really unlikely to use Lester or lightning and thereby increase her odds of uninterrupted chains. Jesus Christ imagine this chick bodyguarding Matt in a real war? Just prop her up like a stationary cannon and feed her mana. As long as she can track the enemy she could hit so far above her tier given time to ramp up damage.

SunderGoldmane

It should work. Otherwise Matt need to store a shit ton of skills in his soul to make use of that ring.

BaguaBrady

Seeing how she's limited in the number of skills she can store, stocking up on otherwise insignificant cheap skills has significant downsides And is there a time window consecutive skills need to be cast in? otherwise, she could preload ahead of fights and start out with a devastating opener that looks like an innocuous fireball or something

Doubtful. Cracked phantom armour let’s him change the look of the armour, make spikes, and channel more through it. It does not change the fact that it is armour (original skill) nor that it is channeled (cracked effect). I think that the cracked effect here is that the type is random, so it’s not up for messing with.

BaguaBrady

I don't fully understand why a random aspect skill is superior to a fixed one for her talent. With random she could end up with bad luck breaking her building chain of skills, while fixed aspects don't run into that issue. Am I missing something about what makes that cracked skill so useful for her? edit: oh I see it now, assuming a completely random distribution of aspects and a near unlimited total amount of aspects, every other skill could be a cracked bolt and the chances of a repeat aspect would be highly improbable, thereby effectively doubling the length of chained skills she can produce (given the main limiter to her talent being the number of skills she can store in her spirit at any given tier)

Alex R

Matt needs to run the aspected mana through the ring, so it shouldn't work with the skill.

Stylemys

Based on what we've heard so far, the Skills wouldn't even need to cause damage. It just needs to be aspected, not necessarily an attack. A single point of mana channeled into something like Liz's [Blood Endurance] or [Blood Manipulation] would count as another aspected Skill being used in the chain. Emily can grab a bunch of aspected utility or channeled spells, modify them to be cheaper like Matt plans to with [Fireball], and start her combo off with them before moving into attack spells.

Procrastinator

If Emily works on [Cracked Mana Bolt] enough will she eventually be able to control what aspect it spits out?

Stylemys

So Matt's new mana-conversion ring memorizes each new mana aspect it comes in contact with. Meanwhile Emily's new [Cracked Mana Bolt] generates completely random and potentially rare mana aspects each cast. Even if they said "no interest needed", part of Emily's repayment to Matt should be using the Skill to give his ring access to a hoard of new mana aspects.

Stylemys

Wait... is Emily's doubling Talent not restricted to ATTACK Skills? Does this mean she could start her combo off with cheap utility Skills of different aspects and still get the extra boost to her attacks? Hell, an aspected channeled skill like Liz's [Blood Endurance] would let Emily double her attack powers by channeling a single mana into it before hand to start the combo.

Onathan

These are the talents on the Path each and every one of them are arguably supposed to be OP broken. But seriously, she's one of the few who truly are if she gets ahold of the right skills. (Low mana cost, average damage, even arguably aoe damage fits in there.)

Forestfire

A lucky string of mana bolts could wreck an immortal if she had the mana

C_Mantis

pretty much endless. things line storm would be separate from the three things its made from and even something like moon would be its one thing those skills just get REALLY rare and hard to find.

PlasmaticPi

Ok that makes sense. And how many aspect types are there? We've seen a lot but I don't remember if we ever got a full list or number of how many there are.

C_Mantis

Pt = Ps * (Sum (X-1) + 1) Pt is power total Ps is skill power X is number of unique aspects cast previously So the second cast would be 3x power third is 6x fourth is 10x fifth is 15x It starts stronger than doubling, but doesn't grow as badly

C_Mantis

well get a pov from her soon but here is one. Cast air spell (0X), fire spell (2X), earth spell (4X), lightning spell (8X). And its base damage that is multiplied. shes not being completely honest on the math tho. I'll post that under for anyone to see if they chose but its a small thing really. The biggest limiter for her is having to chain so many spells and their mana cost.

saganatsu

each spell she casts gets a stacking x2 effect multiplier (effectively +1 tier) as long as she doesn't repeat a spell or element. The fireball takes her from 1 spell at x1 + spell at x2 (water, lightning) to that + 1 spell at x4, doubling her total damage, as well as possibly range aoe, secondary effects, etc. Naturally the actual order she casts them in depends on which elements the target is vulnerable or resistant to, as well as which spell benefits most from the increased effect. The cracked mana bolt interacts similarly, except sometimes it will be of an aspect she already has a spell for, meaning that sometimes she won't get a x8 effect spell. As a result she's incentivized to cast the mana bolt at the start of the cycle, so that it can't end the cycle early by surprise.

PlasmaticPi

Can we get an example of what this means for her talent? Like a list of spells she would cast with how much more powerful they would be at each level.

Shmigit

Thanks for the chapter!
