The reason Bostonians showed up with pots to catch the dripping molasses before the tank exploded was because Boston had a lot of Irish Catholics, many of whom were poor. Back in those days, all Fridays were meatless for Catholics. If you couldn't afford fish, as an Irish Catholic, you made vegetarian baked beans, flavored with molasses for your Friday evening meal. At least all my poor Irish Catholic ancestors did. I grew up near Boston in the 1960s, and I never smelled the molasses, although I spoke to people who claimed they could.

As someone who paid $3k last weekend (another 2-3 for a surgery soon it sounds like) to keep his dog alive, and with no test results yet showing why she was so sick, $120 a month sounds awesome!
