You give and You take away

I was praying the other day about the feeling of many things being taken away this year. My dad taken away to heaven, my mom taken away to another state are two major things. But, I sense a lot of other things coming to the surface that are being taken away too…..they may feel painful in the moment but I can sense the reason and the long term benefit.
I am pretty sure you can guess what some of mine are….I won’t bore you with the long list but some of the top ones are people pleasing and performance mentality.
Interesting, though, as I prayed, I was led back to Hebrews 12 which is the theme of my year. On the surface it might appear to be a “performance” type of passage. But, what it really is to me is God’s relentless mercy and patience in leading me into peace and pure joy.

As for us, we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out before us.
The amazing thing is that with the taking away comes so much of His outpouring of life. Although we may not understand everything and how things unfold the way they do, we do know that He is head over heels in love with us and will do miraculous things to and for us. Open hands to Him and an open heart of trust lead to amazing journeys!

The vine dresser knows exactly what to prune and trim to make the vineyard produce the most abundant crop. Sometimes it’s the bad vines, the weeds and other things that hinder growth, sometimes it’s a good older vine that must yield way so the younger vine can grow into the light and mature. We must trust the hand of the vine dresser. It is He who makes the vineyard beautiful and successful, not the individual vine or even the grape. We vines strive for good fruit, and that’s not bad, but we push and worry, we resist pruning because it hurts, we put ourselves in they way of others vines, we burn out before our season. All we really need to do is trust the vine dresser and His shears.

Another timely share. I needed this. I often question his timing on taking things. Oh, well. And we are kindred spirits regarding the people pleasing. All we can do is make sure this kindness is not exploited. I had never heard of performance mentality. That sums up what I have been dealing with since February. Have a good week.
