Thanks for recommending this, I really liked it. Midnight Mass turned out to be absolutely not to my taste, so I really appreciated how this film handled a not-dissimilar premise with such economy and good taste. Was really satisfying, bravo to the filmmakers.

I like Mr.Roberts. When I see him it’s not a jarring display of ego, he’s never taken me out of the moments provided. Good Actor.

Possible spoilers: I think you missed a bit of dialogue explaining their relationship to the mainland. You had to piece it together from bits of conversation. They mostly lived in isolation from the mainland during that first scene. After those first events, like the very beginning of the 9 year jump, they agreed the best response to the miracle discovery was: 1) making him mayor and 2) everyone committing never to return to mainland. This agreement was an exchange for protection of and access to their new "resource." A beautiful portrayal of inescapable greed created by good people caught in a tension between loyalty and self preservation.

I watched it. It’s absolutely great. Absolutely, it deserves better than to be on Tubi. The score of the movie left something to be desired, but other than that this is a great movie.

Weirdly enough, Cineplex (the largest Canadian movie chain) played promo material for this movie in their pre-show for at least a month last year. I can even find an old Facebook post from Cineplex saying that tickets for the movie were on sale. Strange that there is no reported revenue from Canada unless they sold literally 0 tickets

"Edit: ooh, also The Devil’s Bath" They should work their way up to this through "Ich seh, ich seh" and "The Lodge" in a Veronika Franz/Severin Fiala spotlight episode for fucking depressing movies that make you want to kill yourself... :) Also, "The Lodge" is one of the best movies of the last decade and not enough people talk about it...

Mike likes this movie because he relates to the little girl. He, too, washed up in a boat in a small town. However, instead of healing people, he has the power to make people drunk by proximity alone.
