Before we're heading straight into Marts (and shit loads of new π₯ series!), let's have a look at your submissions and results from the 'Edit challenge' of February announced on this post. π
The rules were simple: 'You were all given five free raw-files of mine, from the photoshoot, to process the way you felt the most'. π€π€π»π₯
So basically you were all given completely opportunities to edit just the way you wanted. π€·π»ββοΈπ₯³ I've looked at all the entries which you send me and it's interesting to see both how different they are - but on the other hand; how similar they are! π π I mean, it's clear that some of you are focusing on the same things and retouching the same areas etc, but then in the toning are going completely opposite ways. πππ»

A kinda similar BW-conversion as I had on my own photos, which I like! π These are slightly more contrasty, but it definately still works, if you ask me.
There's a biiiit much 'Liquify' going on on the face tho. π
Her cheek and jaw are very manipulated and her waist on a few of the photos. I don't know if it was intensionally, but in my opinion it's a bit too much. π€·π»ββοΈπ

Some very interessting things going on on these ones!! π Where to start?! π
First thing first; I like that it's not either 'black and white' or 'colours'. ππ» These has turned out as a mix, and thats super cool.
We have some VERY deep and dark contrast on the black / white one (Photo #1), we have some very LOW contrast colours on the 3rd and we even got a combination of BW & colours on photo #5 too! π₯³π€π»
In general I like the skin retouch on most of the photos, but I would personally have given the second one some more. It's a bit rough as it is now. π It looks like you've used two completely different techniques on the skin, on photo #2 and #3.
I really like the concept of the last photo (the one combining colours / BW) and didn't think of that myself, so huge cadeau for that! πππ» Can you share some thoughts of how you came up with that idea, Quinzin? βΊοΈπ€·π»ββοΈ

A very classic 'boudoir' styled vibe, Tony presents for us here. π The skin has been smoothen out quite a lot, which gives the photo some kind of 'dreamy vibe' to it, I think. Something which was commonly used back in the late 90s and early 00s.

I only recieved this one photo in two different styles; colors and black and white - and personally I find the colored one the most interesting (mainly because the black and white tones are spot on an looks pretty much as my own photo! πππ»), so thanks for giving the same photo two different styles, Tony. βΊοΈππ»
No cropping was done to the photos.

This style is a bit saturated - but on purpose, I guess? βΊοΈ
It works! Eventhou it's in colours and not too much and the warm vibe the original raw-files had, has been tuned down in a fine way, I think. πππ»
The skin retouch is a fine balance, which works okay. A bit rough here and there - but you've removed most of the belmishes and stuff we don't want to remember on our photos. π₯³
All in all; I like this style! A bit saturated but not too much. π

The complete oppersite of the previous entry, Christian Ks, since we now have moved to the warmer tones again.
It is dreamy! It's grainy! It's warm and I dig it. ππ»
The skin retouch is a biiiiit too much tho, and it looks like this was achieved with the "Negative Clarity" from either Lightroom or Capture One. Am I right, Damgaard? π
Some of the photos are also cropped a bit more than most of the other submissions which intensifies the action going on. The amount of 'Vignette' is on point too I think. π

It's a shame, if you ask me, that they don't quite match in the white balance so she ends up looking kinda pale on the second photo, but I really do like what you achieved with the colours tho. βΊοΈ
I see no real skin retouch, which is not a bad thing, but it doesn't seem like you did any or at least kept it on a minimum.

As the only one, you've mirrored two of the photos, which is kind of interesting. I really didn't think of anyone doing so, and it does change the look of the photos I think. π Really exciting way of thinking.
The skin retouching is more or less a negative 'Clarity' it seems, and personally I think it's a bit too much, but hey; it's all up to you. πππ»
I mentioned it last time at a submission on the previous edit challenge, that you really have to be careful with going 'green' on edits. It can look devastating if not mastered, I think. So keep that in mind in the future, Jonas. βΊοΈ

A few filters has been used here and I'm not sure how much of it that was automated. π
I thiiiiiink I can see a few spots on exactly the same place as on other photos, so maybe it was some sort of drag-and-drop? I don't know. ππ€·π»ββοΈ
An interesting way of retouching the photos tho, and I would love to hear some more about how it went down, Ian!! πππ»
Personally I have some difficulties seeing the connection between the model in lingerie looking sexy, and the grungy edit - but I might be missing something. π€ͺπ€·π»ββοΈπ

You've censored the photos too (as the only one by the way!), but I do think the 'crosses' are a bit too large.. haha. My eyes can't unsee them, which is not the point when looking at photo. π€ͺ

I noticed something too on the first photo; You've removed her tattoo two places!?π I'm not totally sure why, but it's important to be consistent with stuff like that, and do it on all photos - otherwise it's too easy to figure out for the viewer and then it can be odd. π€ͺ

The skin retouch looks fine too - however; Be carefull with the use of 'liquify'! π
I'm not sure you've noticed it yourself, Mathew, but when using liquify close to straight lines - you cannot edit those!
Look at the floor line next to her right waist, you've distorted it to a point it is no longer straight.. π
Except that little bummer, it's a very nice submission I think. βΊοΈ

It's all good, work first and foremost π My mind tend to think quick, and I've learned that as an overthinker, just doing things quick usually help, cause it might end up being somewhat overworked? not sure how to describe it basically, so that you compliment me again like that really hits something in me. I do have a basic understanding of what the different sliders do, but it's more like does it fit the concept in my mind that I get from looking at the picture and feel like doing.

Now I totally forgot to reply to you! ππ (Guess I'm too busy after all) Anyway here we go: You shouldn't fear any criticism or feedback - that's what you learn from and can improve upon. πͺπ» I can understand that you didn't do much considerations or thought for too long, on what you wanted to achieve (and that's definately not a bad thing!), so I just have to compliment youre results one more time then - since I really think you achieved a super cool look. πππ» I do really like that mixed picture (colours / bw) because it's not too 'kitch' like most of the attempts on doing that technique. About the thing you said about "just changing one slider at a time in Lightroom", I will like to add a little note: This is a REALLY good idea, as long as you stop up and try to 'dissolve' what the sliders do individually. Ok?π Like, really analyse what they do (not necessarily each and one of them, but the ones you find most important), because only when you understand the technique behind what they do, you'll be able to achieve a higher level of editing. Combining them the correct way etc. Get it? βΊοΈπ€·π»ββοΈ

Was somewhat scared and excited about this feedback, but it wasn't that bad, it almost feel like a high-five or something, that's great cause I really liked the challenge, as a person with limited experience in editing photos of people, and just in general, have been doing some with landscape photo's but that's something else. As usual I just tend to look at a picture, thinking what would make this look nice? Then start sliding on some sliders for different values of saturation, details and graining, maybe have a look on some preset filters in Lightroom, which is was what I used, again not much experience with this, but would love to get some. My main ideas was how do I get the person in focus, and not so much the background, thought of how the lighting was, the settings, what colours I have to work with, so it's all pretty much done with gefΓΌhl but still minding the objects and people on the picture, the two pictures in full colour I actually straightened a bit with the doorframe and a pipe being more vertical on the picture, it gave my eyes a bit of calmness as well. The mixed picture though came to me when I looked over the pictures again after a talk with a friend, and the idea just popped up, I've tried this concept before with flowers, really made the colour jump out, but here it really made HER the focus, I thought it was pretty awesome and just went with it. Please let me know if there is anything else.
