Spiral Mountain, New Tier, New Equipment, and Mining Melancholy
🕑 Added 2017-02-14 11:47:49 +0000 UTC Hello! Spiral Mountain just went live, so here are a few updates about stuff that’s been going on in my home studio. But first, a quick note about the new $3 tier.New Tier
As you may already know, I recently added a $3 tier that allows you to download the stem tracks from each video I upload. I’ve made a separate post with the download link. If you are currently pledging $3 and are unable to access the post, you probably just need to manually pledge to the new tier, as Patreon doesn’t seem to automatically reassign pledges when new tiers are added. If you are still having problems accessing the post, feel free to shoot me a private message.
More Equipment
So I bought a bass recorder (WHICH IS MASSIVE) to use for Mining Melancholy, but the thing I’m actually most excited about is my new computer case. Check it out:

I’ve always been annoyed by how loud my old case was, so I was finally able to purchase a new one, which alleviates my noise problem in three different ways:
- Sides of case have insulation material built into them to keep fan noise down
- Has slots big enough to accommodate 140 mm fans (quieter) instead of 120 mm fans (louder)
- Has a built in fan controller at the front, which allows me to decrease the RPM on my case fans while I’m recording
So far I’ve been extremely impressed by how quiet my room is when I’ve got the fans turned down all the way. I used to keep my old case behind my desk so that it would be as far away from my microphone as possible, but now I can afford to keep the new case out in the open, so I no longer have to do gymnastics each time I need to plug in a USB cable.
Oh, and check out these gnarly spider webs I found in my old case when I was taking it apart. Pretty cool, huh?

So the next problem I need to tackle is my door. I lose a lot of productivity to noise coming from outside of my room, so I’ve spent the past two weeks reading about doors so I can figure out how to get things a little quieter in here. I’ve already ordered a solid core door from Home Depot, so now I’m just trying to figure out which door seals/door bottom to buy. More on this exciting story as it develops.
Mining Melancholy
Here’s the raw audio for Mining Melancholy. This is going to be an extremely effects-heavy project, so right now it sounds very bare compared to what it’s going to sound like when it’s finished:

This one was by far my favorite one. That CCR bit at the end was unexpected and amazing. Good Show!
