Regarding the Credits
🕑 Added 2018-01-29 15:00:31 +0000 UTC Hey all. We've got to talk about my Patreon rewards.As many of you have probably noticed, the credits for my videos are really long now. I get a lot of comments noting that the video is over but there's still 5-6 full minutes left of credits as I read out the name of everyone who backed me $10. I've been thinking about what to do about this for awhile.
Firstly, I want to note this is only a problem at all because I've been supported so massively by so many more people than I'd ever expected or hoped when I came up with the Patreon rewards in late 2015. It's an incredible blessing that I've reached a point like this where the credits are affecting the pacing and production of my videos. So, seriously, thank you all, so much.
But, it kind of is doing that. I don't do the credits every video, usually just one per month, and don't really like that I have to do that. I also end up aiming to make long enough videos to justify credits of that length, which affects the sort of things I end up making. I've had ideas in the works that would be super weird if there were a huge set of credits at the end, and for the sake of pacing I didn't finish them.
So to rectify that, I've decided that the $10 reward of reading people's names out is going to be changed in February. As a replacement, I'm going to start doing an editing stream at least once a month that $10 Patrons will get access to, where I work on videos live and take notes from the audience and demonstrate my process in-detail. VODS of the finished streams will go up for other Patrons after the video being edited is finished.
Just to make sure everyone who has currently backed me for $10 and wants their name read out gets it, I'm going to do readings in the credits two more times. One of the upcoming videos about 'Soy Boys' (I'm only charging for one of them) will have the full credits in it, and the Deux Ex: Human Revolution video I'm aiming to finish in February will have credits as well just to make sure I got everyone.
I'm also going to start doing bonus videos more often. When I'm working I tend to focus on chipping away at longer stuff (the stuff I can mentally justify putting the credits in) instead of making more shorter stuff for fun. I feel like rectifying this frees me up more. I joked about putting out a documentary about the failed Milo video in the Q&A, and I really wanna do that now. So hopefully all my backers get a positive windfall from this and can expect more weird stuff they never asked for from me very soon! I filmed a bunch of stuff over the course of my near-two months of soy consumption, and wanna get that out before long.
The regular $5 credits are staying the same, and people who back at 10 are still going to be in them, of course. By the way, I get quite a lot of folks messaging me asking for me to read/write a different name in the credits from the one they're set to on Patreon, and it's quite hard to keep track of all of them. I apologise if I get it wrong, and if you've noticed a mistake and want to remind me for next time, please message me asap, but as an extra precaution: Please change your name on Patreon directly! That way I'll definitely get it right.
Thanks for reading all of this, and once again, thanks for backing me to the point that I've had to rethink how I run my channel. It's incredibly kind of the internet that I can afford to make such extravagantly-produced weird and eccentric nonsense. Speaking of which, here's a picture of me getting soy food poured on my face.

It's unfortunate that you're changing the types of videos you work on to accommodate the long credits. I like your long videos a lot, but I like the short ones too... I would rather you optimize for being able to release content consistently, rather than trying to make weird concessions because of your Patreon reward structure. IMO exclusive content is a better reward than being in the credits, at least for a lower price point. If someone wants to start giving you $50+ per video, then a personal reading of their name in the end credits seems more appropriate.

I agree with Matthew Abbott that you have a soothing voice, though as one of the people affected I think it's fine for you to skip reading the list. It is less time actually being creative. I am really sure why there is that little dopamine hit from hearing my own name read aloud. I know my name. I can say it myself. But...nope, no dopamine hit when it's just me saying it.
Finally, a chance to turn the tables and sit in the producer's seat! *Gets booted from the steam after 5 mins of frame-fucking Hbomb* Ah shit.
