(AD FREE) Making a PRECISION Machinist Jack
🕑 Added 2022-10-27 14:01:00 +0000 UTCBack to the regularly scheduled programming of making machinist tools, I'm tackling an old favorite. The machinist jack. The concept comes from a very generous viewer who allowed me share his idea on the channel. And it was a perfect match for my current lack of machinist jacks, but also for my normal over-complicated style. But it's not all for nothing. From what I can tell this is a revolutionary design. So join me as I bring this new idea to life!

All mill operations are still needed... but the rest of the milling shouldn't take to much time to do...

His name is Art McKay. I think he's just a nice guy who used to be a machinist. No internet presence or portfolio.

Art who? I was wanting to look at some of his other work

It's pretty clever! I actually got a suggestion from someone to try it by indexing your chuck (If it's a D1 camlock), or by indexing you change gears. Lets you keep the compound at the preferred 60 degrees.

I've never attempted multi start threads before but this might be a good excuse! Love the "hack" of doing it with the compound set sideways and using straight infeed. I kind of want to make some interchangeable anvils out of brass for more delicate workpieces.

Thanks! Yup its a Steadtler 2mm lead holder. The sharpener is a vintage Dietzgen abrasive lead pointer.

Welcome!
