Off Week Update

Firstly I want to say thank you all for the feedback in the latest product poll! You all have a lot of great ideas that got me thinking about what is actually possible with the channel, its future, and making machining more accessible to everyone. This was INVALUABLE!
Also, just to clarify. The Youtube project videos aren't going anywhere. So REST AT EASE!
On a related note. We hired our first part time contractor! Her name is Sierra and while we're not exactly sure what title to call her, she will be instrumental to growing the business beyond the YouTube videos. Helping build and flesh out products (from the poll), starting email lists, newsletters, and generally flexing her absolutely massive marketing brain. I'm beyond excited to have her with us. Sierra can see this post so give her a warm welcome!!
To make these next steps happen doesn't come without changes though. So going forward videos will be coming out every 3 weeks. A decision I haven't made lightly, but needed to happen. And not just for the business growth side of things, but for my own mental health. We've been running at this pace for over 2 years and have been teetering on the edge of burnout. (we/us being my wife and I) This stretched timeline will give us a chance to actually catch our breaths between videos and make sure we can come at each new project revitalized with creativity, a plan, and not feel crunched when editing time comes. And should all make the videos even better, even if they are further apart!
Speaking of videos, plans for the 12 hour road trip got snowed out so that's on the back-burner until the north can calm it's jets.
The stand-in project was no slouch though. By a long shot! Got a little "care package" from fellow YouTuber Not An Engineer that finally exceed the poor box of shame's capacity. So what is one to do but... make a bigger one! I suck at woodworking though so there's some more... familiar materials involved 😉 You'll get this vid on 4/18!

.....Are you telling us that out of all of the tools that you inherited, there was not a single dovetail mill? ETA: Just realized that you could have used the boring head to cut both sides of the slot in a single pass, making precision sizing and positioning even easier.

Welcome Sierra! One more thought about the brain question: Have you ever read the “machinist bedside reader”? There are only 3 editions and seems like the author quit making them and getting a copy is quite expensive. Maybe a video or newsletter version would be cool. My two extra cents…

Understanding how long it actually takes to design and machine something by hand on older machines, I've been blown away by your two week pace as I can hardly get half a project done within a month's time 😅 kids and family need our time. On a side note, currently working out the details for my first major project build for a small startup company that's coming in locally. Fingers crossed we can work out a deal and land a job because I have a feeling it will lead to other jobs down the road. Maybe I could finally step away from the norm and do my thing full time as well which would also really push me to start recording what I'm doing and releasing content myself. We'll see what comes. A warm welcome to Sierra, and excited to see what changes this means going forward.

I was a little sad I kept forgetting to answer that poll, but it sounds like you're in good hands. :D Little sad to have a reduced tempo, but if it prevents burnout, that's more important! Plus it just means you need to grow enough to get a second team going to get back to every two weeks, right? :D
