This is actually a very interesting take on it. I mean he is well aware of why he was made, and that he can't just abandon it, but he wants to (still waiting on that awkward moment when we find out he's actually a she). All his life he's tried to do his job, but denied every single time, with good reason. Seeing as he is clearly established just to want to do his job, and wasn't evil to begin with, can you imagine what it's like to constantly be stabbed over and over every time you wake up? Poor guy really needs a hug. A really big hug.

Come to think of it, how does the Destroyer cause the reset? It has to be more than just existing, or there'd never have been time for the heroes to use the sealing sword in the first place. Methinks there is a chance to find a loophole that will satisfy both sides in this.

What if he was told he *could* destroy the world, but only after all life has already faded from it. He could then fulfill his purpose by getting the world ready for the next inhabitants. In the meantime, he could live a life too.
