Surprise, but not the good kind

I had to put Butters down today. It was a total shock. He was literally fine last night. Today he was in pain and not eating. Since he is 18 years old, I booked an emergency vet appointment for him. They ran blood and urine and it came back unusual. He wasn’t able to keep his body temperature steady so we had him on a heaty blanket. The first vet came and gave me the prognosis- most likely a tumour because of this red blood cell count. I was told by this vet and his colleague that they could only make him comfortable to get him to an ultrasound which would probably lead to surgery. He was too old to put through all of that, especially if i had to combine it with chemo therapy.
My heart is completely broken. We had the most wonderful cuddle last night at bed time. He was my sweet little angel baby and I’m so proud of how far he came. From a literal dumpster to being the sweetest most loving cat. Between losing him and Odin only five months ago… I am at a total loss. My home feels completely empty.
I just wanted to fill you in on what has been going on and why I might be a bit out of it for the next little while.

I'm so so sorry my dear....saying goodbye to our fur babies is never easy and I agree its heartbreaking. Rest assured u gave him the best life you could and it was filled with love. We will see them all again someday. We are here for you....XOXO 🫂 take care of yourself.

I’m so sorry, Iris. It’s the hardest thing to say goodbye when pets hit that older age. I had a very similar situation with a Yorkie as he got older and older. I really hope you do know both your pets cherished you and the wonderful life and care you gave them. Please take the time to take care of yourself. 🫂
