Trapped on the East Coast
🕑 Added 2022-01-03 19:43:55 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Just wanted to update you on what’s happening. I am currently trapped on the east coast with no way to get home. I was originally scheduled to fly back on December 31, but that flight was cancelled due to either weather or short staff due to COVID. We were reacheduled for today, January 3. Just 30 minutes ago that flight was cancelled due to weather in Washington DC and there are no new bookings until THURSDAY. I’ve been trying to just cancel our current tickets, but Alaska Airlines won’t respond via customer service and won’t call us back. So we’re in the hole for $600 already and one-way flights back on other airlines are another $1300! I simply can’t afford that. Through this entire process I’ve had to extend our rental car twice and that bill is now nearing $1000.
So my wife and I are basically screwed. It’s not as big a deal for her because she can work from home with her laptop, but I can’t do anything here. I had busted my butt to make sure there was content pre-produced to run while I was gone, but that stuff has all been published at this point.
Just wanted to keep you all in the loop so you know what’s going on. I know a lot of the industry is getting back into the groove over the next couple days, but I’m trapped here in a holding pattern. Hopefully our flights leave as scheduled or I can find another flight before then that I can afford. This sucks.

I'm outside of Philly and some how managed not to get any of that snow, but man everywhere around me got hammered. Sorry you are stuck there, stay safe hopefully you hear back in regards to your old tickets

This sucks! Hang in there and know that I'll be here whenever you are able to get back - as I'm sure a lot of us in the community will. Can't imagine what it's like out there since in my particular situation family is only about 2h drive max of distance by car and there's no snow like ever. This feels like yet again another situation where COVID just screws things "randomly" and we all need to have patience and understanding and support each other the best we can.
