My initial reaction is that it was too easy. All it took was momma sea stepping in again? There was a really intense battle scene, then he fell for a trap, then he almost lost again. Being saved at the last moment is awfully convenient.

I was confused about the ferry man part. He wanted him to be his heir but they fought ? I think this part needs some clarification not necessarily less mystery but it feels confusing .thanks for the chapter

Loved it, seems like a neat and interesting direction. Especially dig the duality, Jones as the merciless sea, Dominic as the more nurturing sea. Excited to see where you take the story.

It’s amusing to imagine the extended “oh fuck” of all the people desperately attempting to kill him realizing that time has run out. Meanwhile the snake ladies investment is already paying untold dividends. Its my personal head cannon that “Beware the son of the sea” is going to be a very common phrase.

It’s humorous that even hundreds of years old, empire crushing, villainous monsters can still have the same male energy to think they know better than their romantic counterpart, even if she is a spiritual personification of a facet of nature. This isn’t a bad thing, don’t get me wrong! Makes him more sympathetic and human, as instead of being just a monster, he’s a dude who got too comfortable acting in her name and had too much hubris to think his lady would dump him. Love this energy.

"I am not familiar with the title," I said warily. "I was a top class monster hunter in my age..." I think this part is very short and deserves to have a little better transition. To get the storyteller vibe going. For example: "I am not familiar with the title", I said warily. "It was mine title. Title meant for more chaotic times when ocean's deeps were spewing monsters after monsters... Other than this part it's an interesting chapter though I could imagine that adding Domenic's assumptions to what is hinted and revealed would make him seem more sharp.

I thought it made Jone’s motivations made sense. The only thing that confused me for a bit is why the ocean was sad that Dom took Jones offer, but I’m assuming the ocean would have given their own offer if Dom had rejected Jones.
