Oh and Ready Player One. That was an amazing reaction.
glad to be of service haha

This was a wonderful movie to see again after so many years. Very thought provoking and even more enjoyable this time around. Thanks for a very entertaining and meaningful reaction.
i know right? for me, i would avoid this and that.. but i hate to know it overall! i mean... uncertainty sometimes is a good thing.. not always though. i think love wouldn't occur if we put only logic behind everything.. the imperfections call out for empathy and sympathy.. the perfections for ego and pride
exactly! i mean there has to be more than just our physical bodies.. we get strength from something else too! I've seen so many elder people die.. and their faces right before dying said it all... some of them were happy... and is hard to imagine how can you be happy about dying.. but maybe there is more to it. anyway, this movie was good, i love sci-fi movies that are good. i think is the first genre i ever loved as a kid... the only one that creeped me out as a kid, was Alien and Star Trek
ohh nice, the cars look a little like our Dacia 1310 in Romania. but the movie was good, thank you for the suggestion!
oh wow, didn't noticed those!

Well, I did it for my own pleasure, but it's gratifying when others enjoy it also. I also hope to bring some attention to a variety of movies that deserve it.

I have to say, this is one of your best reactions. Up there with The Godfather and The Count of Monte Cristo. I always recommended Gattaca because it's so thought provoking. You can't help but ask yourself what would you do. And I don't care what anyone says, we all would do some sort of genetic engineering if given the choice. If only to avoid diseases, but too many people are desperate to avoid premature balding, bad eyesight, obesity, and anything they're insecure about. Also this story and world and characters are setup and completed within 1 hour and 45 minutes. This kind of writing craftsmanship is rare.

Thx for picking it!

This is such a great sci-fi movie, not because of specials effects, CGI or fantastical other worlds, but a deep, thought-provoking story that makes us reflect on our current life by presenting something that is not happening right now but is very relatable. This is sci-fi at its best. Loved your reaction and discussion afterwards as always. Didn't know about your heart condition growing up Marian, but as this movie says, "There is no gene for fate".

The choice to use retro fashions for the future helps to keep the story timeless. The Gattaca scenes were filmed at the Marin County civic center, built in 1960. The future cars you see driving around are actually Studebaker Avantis, designed in 1963.

Great reaction! Even though I've seen this more times than I can count I keep noticing new things: 1. The symbolism of the spiral staircase. 2. At the end we learn that probably Lanar has been helping Vincent/Jerome all along,. This puts, for example the scene of Lamar drawing blood in a new light. Lamar was probably deliberately playing along. 3. But the situation of Lamar's son sheds light on Vicent's own situation. If it is possible for a person's abilities to fall short of what genetics predict, then it must equally be possible one's abilities to exceed those predictions.
