Violet Evergarden episode 11

In this episode I get quite personal and a bit agitated and angry about the show and the "gratuitious" sadness I've noticed since episode 8. It hasn't soured the show for me, but, I really do feel a lot of mixed feelings towards the viewing experience. It feels a bit heavy handed and almost like "grief porn" in a way that is very difficult to explain but I tried my best to articulate it. I do hope since you all are here willingly you'll come with me with what I'm trying to express - I don't expect you all to agree at all or anything but I did want to touch on how I'm feeling towards this episode in particular after the real mess that was episode 10 for me personally. I know we joke that we don't talk about episode 10 but I've really come away feeling a bit distraught over it! Not in a way that is toxic or anything but just in the delivery being so gutwrenching. It's all very well and good for the character development of violet and I enjoyed her development very much but it also left me totally exhausted and a bit emotionally drained.
The reason I write all of this in this particular episode is simply because I'm sharing some unbelievably personal information about the death of my father because it's pertinent to my feelings. So, I'm feeling slightly nervous to discuss my reasoning for my feelings. I do ask for your gentleness and especially for your kindness in the event that you disagree with me, which is valid and reasonable since we all come to this with different life experiences. I just feel I owe it to you, who pay for this, to know.

Personally, this episode hit me as hard, if not harder, than episode 10. I was in the Army Infantry and had close friends I served with who've died both in and out of combat. I myself never got deployed and was never physically there for any of their deaths, but this episode makes me think a lot about the fact that, at some point, I was talking to them for the last time and didn't realize it. It makes me feel guilty for not having been there with them. Feeling overwhelmed emotionally by these past few episodes is completely valid; as you said, everyone has different experiences, copes in different ways, and is affected by things differently, and people should be able to respect that.

One of the messages that the series tries to emphasize above all else (it may even be on par with the message of the meaning of love) is the message of "Do not glorify war". War has nothing good in it and they want to make that very clear. That and it also serves as an anchor point for Violet's character development.
