Announcement: Expansion
🕑 Added 2024-09-29 03:39:18 +0000 UTCTL;DR: I have rented a second piece of office space and I am very much hoping it will help improve the quality of my videos. in order to explain this, I spent 25 minutes complaining and showing off bits and pieces of my collection.
two things I forgot to mention: the new space is 15 degrees cooler than the other one at all times, so NEXT summer, instead of doing a bunch of crappy videos from home, I hope to do a bunch of so-so videos from the 'warehouse.'
also, i think i mentioned that this lets me get my PC out of the studio, but i forgot to say why that matters: the PC has a bunch of loud fans and i tried my best to make it silent but failed, so the ENTIRE TIME that i've been shooting at the studio, the PC has just periodically interrupted me with loud fan noises. finally I'm able to stick it in another room and never be bothered by it again.
FAQ:
1. "wait so is this replacing the old studio" nope, i'm literally just expanding. This place is across the hall, and I got it dirt cheap, so essentially my studio just got 40% larger, giving me a tremendous amount of extra breathing room.
2. "at 14:00 did you leave in a clip you intended to cut out because you said gamechanger like 3 times" yeah
3. "is this season 4" no

Congrats on the extra space, you're living the dream!

this is exactly why I make videos like this, so people can find these things before they get tossed! Awesome!!

Thanks to you enlightening me to the existence of the OPS standard, I was able to spot a 20 point multitouch 65β OPS display (viewsonic ifp6560) in a gov auction lot of what seemed like trash. Won that lot at 150$ and made off with an 8000$ display! Even had an i5 module loaded in it and 2 stylus!! Turns out theyβre basically all made from the same components repackaged for different brands. After digging deep into mine to diagnose an EPROM issue and getting into bed with the motherboard manufacturers (MStar international) to track down otherwise impossible firmware files and service documents, I now know more than I ever wanted to about these displays. (P.s. they all run android (; ). The entire thing. OSD menus, settings, everything. Itβs all a heavily skinned android ~ 6 OS behind the scenes. And many of them have engineering settings menus that can only be accessed with the ir remote.

10:17 - Reznor heater hanging from the ceiling! None of that Matthew Modine stuff from Illinois. We got Trent! I have a shirt that a friend of mine made. It's a collage of Reznor heaters. Then it says, "Is it hot in here, Trent, or is it just you?" ...okay, I'll go back to Unix geeking. Enjoy the extra spaaaaaaaace.

I'm glad to see that weird hybrid computer / phone still in your collection.

That's something I wanted to do right from the day I moved in tbh

I'll be honest, that brick-wall asthetic actually looks kinda nice. Maybe just a thought, but if you were to do "Warehouse" videos, then maybe actually use that wall as a backdrop :D

If we get anything good from this whole internet revolution thing is that there is some monetization model for nerds to have their nerd shows like yours or Technology Connections. I'm very happy to see this video!

Congrats on the new space! As you allude to, it seems like it's been a tough year, really happy to see you excited for this new space and the adhoc videos to come, I definitely am!

That's amazing! Glad to see you able to expand and I would absolutely love long-form videos (well, longer than currently, anyways :P) of you talking and demoing random stuff live and unscripted. Oh, and something funny: my mother is actually a teacher and, what do you know, her classroom has the exact same board! When you entered that room and I saw the board on the edge of the frame, my jaw dropped, then it dropped even more when you said it's OPS. How did I not think about that or realize?! Now I'm doubly tempted to try to find one... although I certainly don't have space anywhere for one of those, lol. What model is your board, out of curiosity?

i noticed the change of studio backdrop (without the full shelf) and thougt: That's a great improvement

we have spare anti-static bags because we only needed one and it came in a pack of, like, 10 or something? but like. not going to use any of the rest. we'd be happy to swing by to drop them off sometime if you want?

I'll try to keep that in mind because i really *don't* need four, this was a happy accident that will hopefully collapse into just *one* eventually.

Btw, if you're interested in selling one of your early "broken" multisyncs, shoot me a message...I think a 24khz crt is the only gap in my own collection.
