The Battle was fucking awesome, the world-building was bittersweet and mature, the laughs were spot on and it had a great sense of wonder. It is mindblowing that people would take so much issue with this episode!

A lot of people tend to find this episode boring or filler. You guys actually enjoyed it and even pointed out real world issues. Personally, I do like this episode.

It's pretty relevant to real world. I hate this episode because they never address it. There's no need to destroy the temple and they never apologize or try to make it right. Aang is expected to move on. Maybe because my husband's culture was destroyed by colonizers it pisses me off. I wish the show had really addressed it. I actually can't even watch the episode it bothers me so much. This is a real world scar that effects many many cultures today.

I agree that progress is important and I don’t disagree with how they used the air temple to better themselves at all, but you also need to look at it from Aang’s point of view. It’s not that he’s against progress, but this is his entire CULTURE, and his culture is one of the only things that he has left to hold onto since his entire race was COMPLETELY genocided. If he doesn’t have the air temples what else does he have to connect him to his people that he so obviously loved? This 12 year old boy walked into a place where a good many of his people used to be and now he sees it’s basically destroyed and polluted. Even when you look at today you see so many people have their cultures appropriated and their buildings and sacred places torn down by governments, they take it very personally as they should, so I can imagine that’s basically what it feels like for Aang as well.
