Zuko is older. He is referred to as The Crown Prince.
Sean TankTop
there's chemistry and they put those little seeds there for a reason, but I think the showrunners basically ruled on it with where the chips fell ultimately.

NAH. EVEryone doesnt need to make mistakes or tot hat extent. she already fell for jet and zuko, she doesnt have to fuck em to know they are NOT the one. personally never got this "bad boy" shit. im too good and logical to find bad attractive. BAD = BAD! WHY ARE HUMANS SO SILLY
Jerry Ferrell
While I do ship Zuko and Katara, realistically I don’t think they could maintain a healthy relationship over a long period of time. Katara pour’s her everything into the relationships of people around her and I feel like she would eventually grow resentful of anyone whose not able to mature and meet her emotional needs. I just see her pouring a lot of compassion into a relationship and getting tired and irritated when she feels that isn’t reciprocated. Both Katara and Zuko are emotionallly driven but Katara’s manifests as empathy for others while Zuko’s manifests as insecurity.
Sean TankTop
This coming Wednesday yes!

Will the Season 3 Episode 1 reaction be releasing this week?
Sean TankTop
I think Twilight takes the cake of all of em.
Sabrina P
I've never shipped Zutara, but I pity the fans of that ship at it being compared to Twilight and Reylo, those are so much worse, yikes.
KM
I get so irritated when people see that Zuko/Katara scene is romantic! Y'all are great. That finale ending is one of my favorite moments of the show.
River
I think a lot of the reason people get so heated about Zutara is just because when the show first aired in like 07 it was really everywhere--one of the og "ship wars"-- and people got a bit sick of it. Of course, when the show came back on Netflix in '20 everyone just realized they could ship zukoxsokka instead, and peace was restored XD (no, but really, despite what it looks like, people have actually calmed down about it all, so you can imagine). (also, i would love to see a twilight commentary from you guys, that sounds like a ton of fun)
Emma Root
HOW DARE you compare Zutara to Jacob imprinting on Renesmee lol
Talon Stanley
I don't know if anyone has said it yet, but I'm pretty sure when azula attacks aang in the avatar state, she does kill him. He was at his most vulnerable. They don't make it super clear in this episode, but the spirit water "brings him back."
Sean TankTop
lolol
Sean TankTop
Not quite yet, but maybe

THe special announcement is going to be the last airbender movie right? YOU HAVE TO REACT TO IT PLEASE
Sean TankTop
We’ve talked about about it! I think we’ll do it this year
Crystalrose
Ok side note you guys NEED to do a Twilight reaction the first one is SO hilarious !!!! And great discussion at the end of the video!!
Damaskごみ
Yes that's true I agree with you
Damaskごみ
What? Explain more please

An ATLA reaction with references to All Dogs Go to Heaven and Buffy the Vampire Slayer... That stuff makes me happy! Sean, I am with you on the Zutara subject. The first time I watched ATLA, I think I imagined some chemistry between them and was intrigued by the scene in the crystal cave, but when I re-watched the series eight years later I had no interest in that ship at all -- it is unhealthy and has no substance.

Basco is my spirit-animal. Animal instincts? Tell that to my ancestors' actions that led me to easy access pizza.
Sean TankTop
JFC were't we all though?! I was Dad-Swearing like I had just hit a snag fixing the car under the hood when that shit was going down!
Sean TankTop
oh interesting!
Sean TankTop
Yeah, I think as long as the dialogue around it is civil its a really good conversation to have. I think the dynamics are obvi sorta dark, but they're as old as time, and it was information that was fed to us, however scantly, by the storytellers. As long as everyone is keeping thier cool in the discussion it's personally reasonable to come out on either side of it, though I understand the Zakara ship, but Kataang just seems like a better, healthier one.
Sean TankTop
If it's a legendary animated show, Mark is BOUND to show up at some point!
Sean TankTop
Oh yeah, it’s the same thing as a lot of weird romantic tropes are presented in most media would have you end up maced in the face and the cops would be called. It’s just cause the perpetrator is usually hot and that’s how people make it work.
Sean TankTop
I think there’s room for that for sure! And it always comes down to the quality of the writing, and I think its totally fine here. , I do admit, I think most of the frenemy ships only really work for people if the actor is hot, lol.
Sean TankTop
We got Adam over here running the damn NUMBERS!! Get them facts my dude!!
Wesley Chapman
I was never against the Zutara ship personally. I think its definitely the writers playing with the characters and our emotions and that's kind of why it's a thing in the first place. I would say a better example of when a writer got it wrong was Harry Potter not ending up with Hermione. That's just my 2cents. Anyway what a great ending to a great season. Book 3 is a little divisive but it's still a great season for many too spoiler-y reasons. Can't wait for your reactions! So who is the MVP of season 2? Toph or Azula? 😉
Libby DVR
I will never never never understand why people think that moment is romantic. Being locked up with the guy that's been attacking you for months, even if you stop hating him for a moment, is NOT romantic. No woman would feel like that in this situation in real life. If I were locked up with any of the men who assaulted me, romance and sex would not enter my mind. I appreciate that Sean acknowledged it. It's called the Abuser to Lover Trope and it is very UNHEALTHY. It's actually rape culture. That a woman can be persuaded through violence or despite violence, she actually really wants it. I also disagree that the writers were hinting at it with this scene.
Blackeyedlily
Got to say I’m a huge fan of the enemies to lovers trope in storytelling if it is well handled. And it can be a great part of a redemption arc if it isn’t presented as the sole justification for it.
Adam Vialpando
I pity the fool who doesn't meditate.
Adam Vialpando
In my opinion both are about equal in skill. Katar hadbthe edge though because she has had plenty of experience fighting firebenders while Azula has very little experience fighting waterbenders. Zuko is less skilled than Azula but he has fought waterbenders before and Katara in particular so he is better equipped to counter it. But Azula learns from her mistakes quickly too.
Adam Vialpando
Lets see the Zuko and Katara scenes episode by episode guys. Book 1 1: No interaction 2: Attacks her village and brother and threatens her grandmother 3: None 4: None 5: None 6: None but Zuko finds her necklace 7: None 8: None 9: Blackmails her to get what he wants. Also, first time they ever actually speak to each other. Great Start! 10: None 11: None 12: None. 13: None 14: None 15: Attacks her using her necklace. Also Jun jokes about her being his girlfriend, which some people use as evidence 16: None 17: None 18: None 19 & 20: Epic Fight! Book 2 None at all until final episode. 20: The only vaguely Zutara scene in the series. Considering it had no prior buildup and he immediately betrayed her I'd say it is a fail Final Summation: Aang and Zuko had more romantic scenes than Zuko and Katara
Ben Book
Season 3 is a masterpiece but I’d be wrong to say I don’t enjoy season 2 more. Just my opinion because like I said, both are fantastic
Emi
and yes, zuko is two years older than azula. Azula is only 14. and it's funny that you guys were talking so much about Star Wars when Mark Hamill voices the firelord
Emi
ah yes, zutara is a very contentious subject. It's because the kataang versus zutara debacle has literally been a thing ever since the season 2 finale aired in 2005 (so like for the past 16 years lol). There's also dissension from it because the creators are kataang shippers, but the voice actors for zuko and katara ship zutara. It's not so much of a toxic ship, as it is a controversial one just because half of the fanbase enjoys kataang more.
Sean TankTop
That’s incredibly well said Martha! It’s MORE IMPRESSIVE THAT IT IS! Also to be fair, this was at the HIEGHT of everyone just shouting it in the comments, we only were brining it up Cuase it was just such a fever pitch when we shot it! It’s like the T. Rex in Jurassic Park, if you don’t move around it, not too many people will bring it up, so that’s on us! As long as you don’t mention it no one else will, it’s just such a silly thing to say to us we sorta poke fun at it and it honestly created some extreme expectations for us.
Martha
Y'all, it can be a kid's show and also be complex and meaningful. I first watched Avatar as an eight-year-old kid and it's not like I couldn't follow or the subject matter was too disturbing. I think a lot of the joy and heart of the show comes from it embracing what it means to be. a kid. Honestly, and just my opinion, I think Korra leaned too much into "it's not a kid show" and lost a lot of the charm of the original show.
Sean TankTop
This meme has gotten out of hand. As someone who’s nearly finished with it, It’s a kids show, but just so monumentally well written it doesn’t feel like it! It handles stuff better than any kind of show for any age, but it’s a kids show.
And now off to the best season! After s3 ep 3, every single episode is a 10/10.
Sean Silence
Great reactions as always. Something I always notice is that Katara totally had Azula at the end there. If Zuko hadn't interrupted, I think Katara would have won. Also, every time you guys are speculating at the end, I have to sit on my hands to stop myself from responding because no spoilers xD
Aidan Pullen
I always love seeing peoples' reactions to this episode. Sure, it's a kids' show, so a lot of the dangers to characters aren't quite as drastic as say, GoT. However, they do a great job of subverting the classic tv show rule of "not interrupting the main character while they're powering up", and it always kinda catches people off guard. Can't wait for you guys to dive into Season 3! So Exciting!

Have a nice break~~

loved your energy in this reaction!!! you could tell how into it you were. you all looked SO worried when iroh was on his way to see the "king" :p so excited to see the series finale reaction now seeing how invested you all were in this one

Welcome to the Empire Strikes Back of Avatar: The Last Airbender!

February 10th is my birthday. Unintentional birthday gifts are always fun.

It will be
Michelle
also dont worry about ship discourse too much. yes people get heated and sometimes for good raesons IE calling out toxic behaviors and relationships but i dont think avatar ever gets too much into any of that. But I appreciate sean mentioning it still.
Michelle
something special you say? well im curious about that, especially if its avatar related.
Patrick Boyda
Iroh has peak "I'm not mad I'm disappointed" energy
Falalala
There was another cartoon around that time named American Dragon which had the same voice actors for zuko and katara as the romantic pair. I think some of those shippers ended up crossing over and wanting Zutara to be a thing since the other show didn't really make it happen 😂
Jam
Everytime you guys call Iroh, Uncle Tea all i think of is Mr T. “Drink the tea fool!"
Enigma Rising
Amazing Episode! On the Ships in the show I personally try to stay civil especially because as you pointed out the writing was playing with it. I whole heartedly support Kataang😂 again I understand why people can ship katara and zuko dating but they definitely aren’t endgame (to me). Aang shows Katara her playful/childish side that she lost when she was younger and she is the air nomads love reincarnated, so I just love them😂💓
SaviorOfNirn
Of course sad we'll miss a week, just makes the anticipation for season 3 drop all the sweeter
