We think it was a great move, cause watching it here gives a lot of context clues for Ymir, the Titan's speech, but we still got to preserve that just HOLY SHIT THEY CAN TALK moment for S2's premiere!
This is an insane episode, one of our favorites!

There is a manga for lost girls but yams didn't write or draw it he just gave them the ok on the content

yeah the OVA's or hell even the Specials for most anime come out \after\ the anime is done so if ur like me and are watching the older anime ur not gonna remember there's more content for that anime when ur done, ur just gonna put it as completed and go onto the next anime it wasn't even till reactors started watching the OVA's for AOT did i actually watch the OVA's XD (literally 2021 i watched aot weekly from season 1 as it was airing!! i am a terrible anime watcher XD)

yeah i believe the levi OVAs also adapt a spinoff manga but yeah usually its anime original content. or at least based on not main content. lost girls i believe adapts some novels i think.

Isle's Notebook is a special manga chapter. Though you are right about most of the other OVAs

And it's "Original Video Animation" because these kinds of episodes are created just for the anime, they're not adapting the manga here. Or usually that's how it goes.

Nice! Glad you guys checked the OVAs. And yeah, OVA is basically like a special episode usually aired between seasons to keep fan interest. All of these also came out between season 1 and 2 airing I believe. A couple more followed up between season 2 and 3.
