Great topic snd debate. My question is your trying to remain faithful but also add some new elenents. With all the different storylines to tell stretching it out over multiple episodes could cause the show to drag. Ido feel there thete making some episodes almost too short

It's too bad we didn't get a Hot Topic. I was hoping for Ellie to go to a Spencer's to see all the adult board games and lava lamps.

I do agree that one of the things lost in a video game to tv show adaptation is those long stretches of gameplay where you explore the world and fight infected/people. When you watch the show these tragic vignettes are back to back, and you miss those moments of adrenaline, relief, and serotonin when you successfully complete a difficult gameplay section. I do think that all of these smaller storylines (tess, bill & frank, sam & henry, ellie & riley, etc.) are very important to the overall themes and messaging of the show- I am interested to see how you all feel about it once you’ve finished the season and get the bigger picture!

I'm getting ads during this reaction. Am I doing something wrong? It makes it really tough to keep sync.

I think the gameplay helps with the current pacing of ‘meet the character for 50 minutes, then they tragically die’ thing because due to the game requiring gameplay you get a lot of idle dialogue and conversations with characters that help flesh them out somewhat more than some in the show. The TV plot really does seem to just keep doing the ‘introduce character at the beginning, make you care, kill them tragically’ routine over and over because they’re having to fit these deaths into a three act structure so it becomes really formulaic.

in the DLC, it cuts back and forth more often with ellie in the present and then her flashback with riley; which i think would have helped this episode more. i will say this episode was a bit repetitive in the sense we focus on two people in love only for them to meet their doom like the bill and frank episode. all that aside, i loved this episode still. storm reid and bella do such an amazing job of acting like teenagers in love. storm’s last few words to ellie had me choked up. next week is gonna be a banger by the looks of it and where we are in the game

Also, there's the element of actual gameplay that sorta gives you some respite! Like you beat the level and thats an exhilarating moment. The HIGH if you will then, the Low.

Yeah, I found myself saying "That's the end?!" when the credits rolled on this one, and not in a good way. As far as the current plotline, the whole thing moved forward by about 10 minutes. I wish we could've had all these elements that were here but maybe not as much of them. There were so many moments that I loved but it does feel like I'm just tuning in every week to be introduced to someone and then receive a gut punch when they die before the end of the episode. Episode 6 was pretty much the only one where that didn't happen. And yeah, the game is like that too for sure, but there is definitely a lot more in-between time and secondary events that can break up the suffering.
