Blu-ray is cool and I would have loved if it looked that way originally (especially without the dimming and ghosting that are only there due to regulations) but the original version is why I was so hyped in the first place and there's absolutely nothing wrong with reactors watching it like that too. The added scenes in the next episode are cool, though, check them out in your own if you are interested.

Reversed Cursed Technique is very rare. We've only seen Sukuna, Yuta from the film and Shoko(the smoking lady) do it on other people. Gojo can only do it on himself and heal himself. I mean in the first episode of season 2 in the flashback they emphasise that Shoko can do it and Gojo and Geto can't so I wouldn't call it random

Oh yea and obviously Sakuna is like the peak lvl 100 version of this. He demonstrated his mastery of healing being able to regrow a heart and hand right on the spot. Shoko couldn’t fix Yuji when his heart was ripped out but Sakuna could.

Shoko Ieiri(healer smoking lady) is the mortician lady from season 1 when Yuji got his heart ripped out. She’s also the 3rd member of the Gojo-Geto-Shoko squad from the Hidden Inventory prequel. It’s stated she’s not a strong fighter but she understands reverse curse energy(healing) more than anyone else and even Gojo can only heal himself and not others like she can. She’s mentioned in the show off-handed in lines kinda like, “I see you visited, Ieiri-san” a few times I believe. Just writing this out to help you solidify it since you guys seemed confused about her in the discussion. The healing stuff has been a mainstay of this universe since season 1 and not like an asspull just for this arc. Fun reaction btw! 😊 Can’t wait for next episode!

I’m sympathetic to the artists for not having enough time as they should have, but yeah 30% is an exaggeration. Sean’s right-on about people retroactively thinking the original version wasn’t as good as it was. We were all completely and rightfully floored! I think 30% only feels accurate for some viewers because they might mistake the sketchy and highly impressionistic shots for unfinished ones.

IMO the bluray corrections and extra scenes for 2x17 are pretty cool and I'm glad I watched it because the animators said their vision felt like 30% complete when that particular episode aired. Other than that I'd agree that watching is not necessary

Exactly. It's a staggering fight in its initial form. Like so insanely well done. I do think they hype the fuck out of it to sell copies. Obviously you would, and it's for sure better, but like the breakdowns I've seen, we're talking like... 12 frame long shots. And like a lot of internet hivemind think, I do think people retroactively back-fill shit like... they thinking the first version was WAY worse than it initially hit them. Again, better and slightly bright and clearer but I guess I find it hard to believe that anyone would be more or less emotionally invested by either version. "Like, Mahoraga throws a train. And in the BluRay, he (checks video) .... like really throws a train, bro. Like fr fr throws its for like 2 seconds longer in the Blu Ray, bro." I dunno. it is better, but Blu fans have been so insanely aggressive about it its been off putting.

Oversell? I definitely don't think Sean and the crew need to watch it, but there are enough changes especially with one specific episode that it's worth owning on Blu-ray for even a casual fan. Scenes aren't dimmed, animators have more time to be thorough with the animation, extra scenes. It's definitely worth the money, but it's not necessary given the original format is already amazing.

They got a BluRay to sell! It’s hilarious how well this ploy seems to work with weebs. Like people sold it like it was just so transformative and just wipes the floor with the OG presentation. And it is DEFINITLEY better, but in a pretty technical way for the most part. But the comments made it sound like this was the f’n Extended Edition of the Lord of the Rings or Blade Runner Directors Cut. I’ve seen it. It’s cleaner, brighter and clearer but unless I was looking for it or such a big deal was made I doubt much of the fandom would see these fixes as such dire issues within the episode itself. The main impact is still felt

I think people (including MAPPA themselves) really oversell the blu-ray version. Even as a huge animation fan, to me it really isn't the transformative upgrade people say it is. The original version is already one of those most visually striking fights I've ever seen in anime! The completed shots are very welcome and of course it'd always nicer to see dynamic moments without the anti-seizure dimming, but yeah it's definitely not required.

************BLU RAY NOTES ************* no. no we didn't watch the Blu-Rays, we watched the same as yall did upon release when you guys were super floored upon initial release and I (personally me, Sean) don't think it would emotionally invest us into the story any more than we already are. Cleaner? Yes. More impactful in terms of story and emotion? Highly doubtful. So pretty please with sugar on top, if you were planning to harang us with why we need to watch the Blu's, please save your breath and just hang with us as we enjoy what you all enjoyed upon release. Thank you so much for the concern for our viewing experience but rest assured we will be just as floored as you were when you watched this back in November! Thanks yall!
