The Mahoraga vs Sakuna fight is an all timer and the emotional fallout of Yuji upon it's conclusion is devastating.
Although we'd like to think we've prefaced this enough...
No, we didn't watch the Blu-Ray.
This as shot maybe a few weeks before it was widely available and we watch and freak out the same way that all did upon initial release when this episode first broke the anime internet.
Please, if you're going to comment, for the love God, please let it be about anything other than the Blu-Ray. Story beats, badass moments, thoughts on the score or the scale of the fight. Anything, but about the BluRay version.
While admittedly, it is absolutely a better version, a few brightened shots and a couple of beefed up action beats wouldn't emotionally impact us any more or less than yall were when you first watched it and it lit the internet aflame.
We only preface this again, because it seems impossible to surmount them no matter how many times we preface their absense. Please, even if it's to agree with us. Just talk about anything else in this episode other than the BluRay! Thanks!

Okay, so like....Japanese is a heavily contextual language. So while it CAN be translated as Malevolent Kitchen, it really should be Malevolent Shrine. Like I COULD call my underwear my "cock sock" which is technically true, but I'd only ever call them that in super specific contexts and I'd mostly just not do that, you know?

Another thing you guys might have missed is the number of times Megumi actually considered summoning Mahoraga before this episode by forming the summoning hand sign of clenching his 2 fists (hence the character trait always mentioned that Megumi keeps trying to throw his life away). Some examples are when Megumi first fights Sukuna, and right before he does his domain expansion in season 1. In fact, if you rewatch the episode in s1 right before Megumi does his domain expansion, he actually speaks the incantation partially to summon Mahoraga before being like 'fuck it I'll domain expansion instead'. Kind of funny looking back how Megumi was willing to drop a mini nuke in a few battles and essentially sacrifice himself just to beat the enemy.

Loved this episode! Seeing Megumi bring out that absolute beast, Yuji breaking my heart and then seeing Nanami at the end was incredible!

Now that you've watched this episode, here's a fun fact if you don't already know it: The reason they play the OP song "You are my special" at the end when Yuji is literally traumatized is because the song itself is from the point of view of Sukuna mocking Yuji. So just like Sukuna giving control back to Yuji right next to that big crater where he massacred so many people, Sukuna is purposefully traumatizing Yuji and mocking him both physically using his body and mentally with the song/killing so many people.

you know why? Cause it was two characters we've interated with before. Mahjorah or whatever is just a big weird monster guy who's super strong. Not much of an emotional hook, whereas we've seen Jogo fight multiple times, be a real shitbag, and there's familiar pathos there. Same with Sakuna. Handsome Squidward guy doesn't have really any stake in this story other than fighting and he's fighting "the bad guy" so its like... okay. A technical marvel, but I can see how the Jogo fight would be more of a hook.

I’m glad you did this because I had to fight the urge to make the same comment haha. This episode (in its original form) was one of the wildest fights of the season. I still can’t believe they had to apologize for it being unfinished. Sure I get it could have used some polish, but damn did I love it. I also may have an unpopular opinion that I am more partial to the Jogo “fight”. Idk why, but it just hit different to me. Maybe I just like Jogo abuse?
