Notably this is how they vikings could sail from the Baltic to the Black Sea through Russia (instead of going around the Atlantic). They used rivers and then carried their ships between rivers. I doubt they ran into battle with it on their shoulders though, lol.

Actually there was another time skip here. The first few episodes take place in 1002, and Thorfinn is 6 years old. In episode 6, they montage through the next 6 years, so he's 12 during the stuff with the kind English lady. And then here they jumped forward another 4 years, so it's 1012 and Thorfinn is now 16.

Worth mentioning that in the manga, the story is structured differently, and this episode is where that begins. Then, it flashes back to the Thorfinn backstory stuff with Thors. So that's why this episode is so goofy and over-the-top and action-packed, this was originally written to hook readers on the action and adventure and the charismatic Askeladd and Thorfinn the badass vengeful murder child. It's almost definitely the shallowest episode, still a lot of fun though.

Carrying longships over land was done all the time historically especially by Vikings. While these ships might seem too heavy to carry if you are carrying it with 40+ men it’s obviously a lot easier and these longships were much lighter, faster and more versatile than comparable ships of the time it’s what made Vikings so terrifying, they could come in with their fast af ships, raid villages and towns and get back on their ships and flee before any real army or military force was able to mobilize and catch them. And there's a bit of anime logic as well of course haha.
