Morgan is right, last time they left with no money if they voted to leave. I think the idea of voting after each game is new, maybe it was always possible but they just didn't happen to have more than one vote. I feel like the vote is taken for granted that it will happen whereas in S1 Gi-hun's friend had to cite the rules and ask for it. In Season 1, 255 people were eliminated in Red Light, Green Light. This time it was 91. So Gi-hun being there probably saved a lot of lives.
