Making 18th century jumps (AGAIN)...but from bed sheets...
🕑 Added 2021-11-20 02:44:24 +0000 UTCIn today's video I revisit an old pattern, with some updated construction methods. The whole process was also made easier by using a less fray prone binding material, and a pre-quilted main fabric. I've learned a thing or two since 2017, thankfully!
(Though the fit of this pair is arguably worse than the original, TIME IS CRUEL.)
Whether you've seen the video on my first attempt or not, I hope you'll enjoy this adventure in making jumps, and a striped skirt to match!
AND the pattern will be available as a pdf download for $10 and up patrons. It is in a single size (best suited for a 30" waist or so) but since it is so simple, it would be easy to grade up or down.
I enjoyed making them, mostly, but I must admit - I don't really like the finished result. By that I mean it is probably my least favorite thing I've gotten around to finishing in the past year.
I think the color, paired with the lack of texture these materials have just makes it feel very flat and boring (and yellow). Which are things I generally try to avoid with my costumes. I think I've gotten a bit spoiled by the sheen of silks and the weight of wool over the years! And even though I like working with quilting cottons a lot, the dullness of the fabric is always disguised by a bold print. Without that it just feels very...blah (and yellow) and I'm not a fan.
I think my next costume will be black. Because even the absence of color is superior to yellow.

I have been using sheets from the discount store of mock up fabric, its way easier for me to get and honestly, linen has the most beautiful prints, so why not use it!!
