You can't reply to replies for some reason. 🤷‍♂️ I get what you're saying; in general people don't look too far into the future, especially where money is concerned. I've worked with people who asked me for money the week after they got paid because they couldn't budget themselves for two weeks. I thought it was simple enough to keep money aside until you have what you need to cover your payments and debts before spending any of it on yourself. No need to apologise for the 'ran' it's nice to see that someone is both passionate AND knowledgeable about a subject! ☺

Not so much Greed and Selfishness as a scarcity or 'poor' mindset. Most people grow up with broke parents, broke teachers, broke co-workers and if they develop a skill which brings in income they don't change their 'broke' or 'scarcity' mindset. So they can accumulate hundreds or thousands of $ and still have the mentality of 'I NEED more', so they keep working in employment, they keep taking more and more commissions for their skills and ultimately they break down and start looking at how to make a quick buck by doing the minimum and getting the cash quickly. How many people do you know that are like that? Greed is not a bad thing, wanting to earn more to put food on the table or take your loved ones out isn't a bad thing. But people with a 'poor' mindset will take the cash quickly for minimum/no work. They think "Hey I've been given $500 right in my hand, great I got money, but that'll disappear soon so I need more, where is my next commission?" What they don't realise is you need a different mindset when you come into money, you can only ever be rich or successful by serving others needs/wants. Henry Ford realised in his day only very rich people could afford cars because of how scarce they were, by making Ford cars plentiful it lowered the price of Ford cars in the market so much that middle class & poor people could afford a car. He got rich, slower than the posh car companies but earned more over time by being generous enough that everyone could afford a car, everyone could afford to travel further for work, for leisure. Every Ford worker had a Ford car now. He anticipated and served a want/need for cheap, affordable cars and continued to do so. He could have had the mindset of creating a piece of crap car, making a few bucks and then going onto the next big money maker idea like this sketch guy. Eh, sorry for my rant. It just fascinated me how people can shoot themselves in the foot like this just for immediate $$.

Man that really sucks. You would have thought that they would want to keep their reputation but I suppose greed and selfishness reigns. In any case I do love the sketch and all the fantastic work you've been putting out. Keep it up! ☺

My friend I wish you luck and a speedy claim.

I'd liked and enjoyed their work in the past and they seemed fairly prominent, I suppose I let that cloud my better judgment about paying everything up front. (That and they were willing to do the sketch first before any payment so that disarmed me.) Also I just filed the claim on Friday, it may be next month before I hear anything on it.

Yikes! Yeah be careful of paying in full unless they have a reputation for doing the work. Did they have references beforehand that you checked? Anyway like you said something to build off of, there are websites like Fiver that you can hire people to create drawings on for just, well....a fiver. Have you got your money back in the end?

It really sucks when an artist ghosts on a commission, especially when it seems to be for no real reason. Thank god for paypal though, being able to file a claim has saved on several occasions. Cyan does look cool though!
