Hypothetical Rewrite
🕑 Added 2024-05-09 19:33:45 +0000 UTCI know this is a little sudden but bear with me, please.
If I were to rewrite Optimistic Game, would you still be willing to read it? This doesn't confirm anything. Frankly, I'm too lazy to even make a stat sheet to consider an entire rewrite, so no need to worry about the future. I'm just curious. That's all.

it would depend on what you changed and how. for instance: same plot but different skill sets= maybe. slightly different plot, improved scenes and different skill set= probably new plot and new skills= yes, but i'd miss this version
Magics&Mundane
Ofc i would do it, but you'd better make it more harem-girls adds from other worlds by the 'time-line' compared to now if so! Actually regardless can't you add some girls from other Manga/Korea Manga/anime/game/movie/tv shows worlds? :) I mean like Imagine getting one of (the original gamer's) companions? Or say Jaina from Warcraft? Or even something like Tifa ff7 or Yuna from ffx? Just please not Haruno Sakura or Ino please... If its Hinata or Temari or Tenten or Kurenai sure! But not the other 2...

I’d still read it because let’s be real here the number of good RWBY oc stories can be counted on one hand with fingers left over but I think I would miss all the progress made in this story
Draconic Hermit
Shit, he has us pegged! Run for your lives! :V Also, glad to get confirmation.

I’d do it but I’d be sad. You’re doing really well.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, yea id definitely read it. On the other hand, we're already a pretty good bit into the story and losing all of that progress kinda feels icky, especially when the story is already good. Doubly so when I'd have a general idea about how the story is going to go, unless drastic changes were made
Chichi son
Not because I think it needs a rewrite but because the story is great enough as is that even a poor rewrite would most likely be worth reading

Now that I’ve gotten an understanding of the situation personally I’ve feel like we’re too far in for a rewrite. To put the story on pause for that hypothetical rewrite would definitely kill the momentum you currently have going on. I might be biased but personally I don’t think your previous chapters were all that bad as you make it sound to be. It’s natural that you would feel that way since you’ve improved so much from when you first started.

I guess I can see why you'd see it this way, but to me, it could use way more polish. To the point that older chapters would become unrecognizable. Mind you, when I started this, I was barely an adult, so my childishness was still present, and could be seen in those early chapters, so the transition of Reid going from a delusional kid who was way over his head to a responsible hero archetype was absolutely rough. I legitimately can't read the early chapters. That's how bad it is for me. Because I'd look at them and always think "I can do WAY better than that!"
NEARUS
Not at all! I wouldn't have made this poll if I didn't want people voicing their dissatisfaction. Thanks for the comment!

Sorry for the almost rant-like way I worded my comment I was going more for "constructive disagreement" im not sure if I came across as rude but if I did that wasn't my intention
NEARUS
I can always rely on my readers to be the horniest fucking people alive. I'm proud to have cultivated this fanbase. (Alive Summer would be a thing in a hypothetical rewrite)
Draconic Hermit
If you do go through with this in the distant future, you can write in that Summer!Lives/Dead!Taiyang plotline. As much of a fucking Chaddy Dad move surviving the Suicide Forest was, something different for the rewrite would help develop interest from those who don't just want to read the same thing but more polished and improved. And no doubt it will be distant future kinda stuff.
Mrmeme101
Or in other words be more... OPTIMISTIC!!
Loghead101
Honestly man, the current story really works with those exact flaws in mind. I might have to re-read it for full context but it just sounds Reid and the story went through character growth. Going from a general murder hobo and loot goblin to someone who can still be those things but more sees the world as being a real thing, finding purpose in it and wanting to do better and make things right for the world sounds like what you want out of a character like that. To stop seeing it as a game and more life.
Mrmeme101
I honestly hate almost all rewrites theres nothing worse than having to start a story all over again because even if the quality improves the magic is gone for me the second time I read it. It kills the momentum of storys for me and I find it really hard to get back into. I also enjoy watching the author get better over time in your case you have expressed on discord that you are not entirely satisfied with your earlier chapters but I kinda like going back and seeing you get better. At the end of the day I think you have been too critical of your work everyone struggles early on when they start something new and improvement is part of the process. Keep in mind this is just my opinion but I think instead of getting unhappy about past work focus on continuing to get better in the future until you are happy or at least content with the end product.
NEARUS
Understandable. While I personally feel very confident in my writing that I feel like I'd make a better version, I can see why anyone would be hesitant. I've been writing this for 4 years, after all. That's a lot of time spent following a story.
Loghead101
Allright then I’ll change my vote. Thank you for clarifying that the current story isn’t going to get axed.
NEARUS
Completely understand. If I would make a rewrite, it WILL be after I finished the current version, so OG:R would be a first draft, so to speak. Thank you for the comment!
NEARUS
lots of factors. Check my reply to David C. I explain my thoughts there.
Loghead101
Honestly man, no. This is by far your longest and most popular fic. The ones that a lot of us are here for. Some of us have been your for the 4 year ride and would not want to see that end. Now unless you were to do this rewrite after you already finish OG: R or do both this rewrite and not abandon OG: R then that’s a different story. If you can do both and commit to finishing OG:R then I can say I’d be interested in seeing how you would do it differently. But if the story we are reading now gets axed in the process then it’s not worth it. Also the current Optimistic Game is already a rewrite so doing it again kinda leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
NEARUS
Ahh. Well, mostly, it's due to how older chapters don't really fit the theme I've been trying to aim for with current ones. Originally, this started as a silly powerfantasy fic until I realized that I wanted to do more with it. Thus, the strange shift in tone within the story around the middle. Plus, constant grammar errors, several plot holes, childish writing, and a lot more factors. Don't get me wrong, though. While I don't consider it to be my best work (that would be Like a Devil), I still really like Optimistic, and I have a lot of ideas for the future. It's just that the early chapters are TERRIBLE compared to the current chapters. Of course, like I said, not gonna rewrite it. 500k words is A LOT, and I'm too damn lazy to bother.
Z3DeltaGhost
Speaking solely for myself I’m personally happy with the direction the story is going so far but ultimately do what you feel is best.
Lictor Magnus
I love your work, but I’d be hesitant to read a rewrite of a story I really like. They either aren’t as good or it ends up being a mixed bag of some things being better and others being worse. The few exceptions have only been when the story didn’t have any structure at all and the rewrite had an actual outline.
David C.
Like why its being rewrote, what you dont like about thr current version and plan to change? It took 4 years to get to 64 chapters and the sunk costs fallacy is running rampant in my mind
Z3DeltaGhost
While I would be a little sad seeing as how far in the chapters we’re in I’d still read it. Just out of curiosity what makes you want to rewrite it again?
NEARUS
