Yes, and no. Catching a youngling with the potential to become a Guardian with nothing but time and a bit of food is much much easier than hunting for an Awakened beast that fits ALL the requirements of the Blessed's World, AND to push it further and further and further.

I second Sobek. As a stand alone seen it looks like an epilogue. But if this is related to future events in book 2 (ex. If the son and his new bond? Are in the special camp, or they take actions that impact the MC or his family/friends...) then it is nice foreshadowing of a new challenge or complication that will be in book 2.

Epilogue. Though really... Wouldn't it have been easier to get a weaker beast and work up to buying a Mistal?

I also agree it works better as B1 Epilogue... As a curiosity, the boy bounded with the egg and was able to keep it? Cause if so, the crazy dude kind of got his way in the end.

I think if it foreshadowes something in b2 then you can leave it as a prolog but otherwise it's better as an epilogue
