I like it, because it gives an illusion that these ancient beings actually have , if not , necessarily a plan a way to move forward , that keeps them entertained and make sure that our main character will be involved in their machinations for the time being. It's a plot hook to using future books that can be reeled in and let loose as needed until it finally comes to a conclusion.
