BML formed when a high up guy backstage in New Japan got removed from his position so he left to make his own promotion and took some of the wrestlers with him. Shibata was being built to be there ace but the company folds before he really gets solidified and he mostly leaves wrestling for mma for the next couple of years until he eventually returns to New Japan in 2012
