It's funny that you bring up demoralization on a ship. They present quite the unique environment. You can be out to sea for 6 months and come within sight of land just to get restocked by a tugboat. You're only talking to them because you're getting extended for two more months and they're about to go home and sleep in an actual bed. Or maybe you've been patrolling some area for months when your relief comes fresh from transit and only been out for a couple weeks - you and your crew have been eating out of cans for the last two months because one of the freezers went down and you lost half your store of meat. Your relief is telling you over the radio about exotic fruit from some island they just did a port call at while you haven't even seen fresh green food in at least 4 months. The clash of vibes is always interesting.
