Can you take a closer picture of where the audio comes in from the bluetooth module?

So where would you recommend pulling voltage to build this device off a radio without a power transformer? I have a Philco 12-1262. Kind of a novice at this, but taking every precaution. Its a great hobby and I am enjoying learning. 👍

What would you recommend for installing bluetooth in an AA5 that doesn't have a transformer? I've kept probing the board but not found a suitable voltage between 8 and 30v. Now and then I get lucky and find a spot with a suitable voltage but more often than not, I don't.

The voltage regulator you presented in video 39 configured as a shunt regulator would make a nice addition to a radio such as this where 1 or more stages might need to be turned off for Bluetooth operation. It would also protect the electrolytic capacitors from excessive over voltage.

Hi Tim, yes, they all have the same name. I just "forget" the device, and pair the new one every time. You can also rename the device on your computer if you like, but it will only come up as the name that you renamed it on that particular computer.

The soldering of these boards is done by resting your hand on the bench top holding the soldering iron. This steady's the hand.

Thanks Paul. I've thought about how I might do this, and watched others do it this way and that, but you're the first I've seen, that took everything into consideration. I've enjoyed all your content but seldom comment.. I used to make my own boards back when it was much harder, but I've gotten gunshy with age. I wish there was some way your patrons could buy boards from someplace like PCBWay. Oh well I guess I'll have to man up when we are able to move back into the house next month and use a part of the barn we are living in now to make boards. Merry Christmas (I assume you celebrate as you have mentioned playing the old radios at Christmas parties, if I'm wrong Happy Holidays) and Happy New Year. p.s. I love the car and garage and appliance stuff too. We're much alike, except you are much better and "pickier" at it than I am. Also some day you'll have to give us a background story on YouTube. You made me do a double take when you mentioned you drag raced - it's a fair distance from there to being a genius electronics technician (although not so much for a top fuel crew chief these days I guess).

Yes, another great, informative video. I have an off topic question if I may. What are those two socket like parts that look like bulb sockets? One is on the terminal strip directly to the right of the Switching PCB. If they are bulb sockets, why are they situated on the bottom of the chassis facing down? Just curious.

Earlier in the year I documented my own adventures in adding a board to a battery-powered transistor radio on your forums and have been looking forward to seeing how you approached the problem and addressed the power supply issues that arise from the AC mains supply. That is exactly what is done here. The amplitude is still so high from the disconnected IF, the cathode still needs to be lifted beyond switching the input (or one end) of the volume control.

Cool. I was looking at doing this with some table top radios, but probably not the best choice. We have to start with a radio with good sound. Those battery looking sockets are empty. What were the batteries replaced with? ....I know watch old videos... lol

Of course, disconnecting the cathode of a valve will reduce the current load on the B+ line.... My thinking is to use the relay to switch inputs to the volume control from radio to BT. That should lose the hiss.
