This is a single sided board, not double sided, and if you look around, you will find very cost effective boards.

Solder practice? A blank PCB like that on Mouser is about $50. Where can we get inexpensive blank double sided boards?

Nice! Not understanding much, yet, why don't you add/print a ruler on the pdf so one can see the calibration is good that way?
