Wasn't he a good enough coach or did he do something more unethical? Like betting against his team? Whatever the reason, he's got a good reason to do better in the future! Or maybe not! ;)

I think Coach promised the team they could give him a serious spanking if they won the big game. It was quite an impetus for the boys to give their all, and Coach got what he wanted: A victory, and a red posterior. Win/win!
