Pre-Mortems: "Halley and the Snake Men"
🕑 Added 2025-01-05 23:43:50 +0000 UTCHere's the first episode of my new Patreon-exclusive series "Pre-Mortems", exploring the things that died before they got the chance to live*. We're starting with that "rock opera based on the Metal Gear novel" project I mentioned back in Interpretation. Lemme know how you feel about this style of video. It's a very "mid-2010's YouTuber Who Talks About Video Games" kinda setup, but I'm havin fun with it.
*Now, TECHNICALLY "pre-mortem" is already a term with a different meaning, but that's never stopped me before!!

Man that song just started to get good. I like the concept of it and never knew these books existed! I hardly know much about the Metal Gear series but one day ill get into it.

Yeah, tbh I considered it while editing the vid, but couldn't really find anything that needed saying afterwards. Part of the problem is how abruptly the track itself ends, I feel. Either way, I think it's potentially something that becomes less jarring once there's more episodes establishing the structure - preamble, explanation of project, project itself.

The final instrumental rocks, but honestly I really would love to hear the full beatboxed Theme of Tara, that was a treasure. This was a really good video overall and I appreciate your narration cadence and sense of flow. :3 On a tangent, if you want to read a DIFFERENT terribly misguided book about Metal Gear, may I recommend the absolutely dogshit 'Boss Fight Books #9'? It's some genuinely hateful bad-faith interpretations of the source material by a pair of awful wannabe-comedians and it gives me the same energy as the Worlds of Power or Captain N, which is regretful for a history series that's otherwise usually quite good (because it's usually written by other people :V).

I feel like the video ends pretty abruptly, I kind of expected something after the song. It was really good! Honestly, researching more about the book, I could imagine a headcanon where Naked Snake published this book as counter-intelligence or something.
