Actually president can declassify by thinking about them . Not every action under their authority requires Formal announcement and paperwork it’s a logistics nightmare . Deciding when , where and to whom to confide sensitive material is in presidents power . VP in 2016 with docs on Ukraine and Iran especially given the funny money the family was receiving only amplifies how wrong this is . If this were Dick Cheney you know you would be furious but not as furious as Trumps legal possession of documents because TV and Web news told you to be. Think on why that is .

The President is able to take home and declassify anything he wants including on Ukraine and Iran or a dog named Checkers be it in 1789 or 2023. The Vice President does not have same authority to take home classified documents .

I sure hope GW didn’t then claim he de-classified them by “thinking about it.” Also, no one had to worry about the Slayer of Cherry Trees selling the documents to Saudi Arabia or Russia.
