Hey Trevor, FWIW most of what I use is very affordable hobby grade machines and tools. For example this fire piston project can be completed on something like a Sherline, brand new $600. You do not need to spend anything like $50k. Cheers, Chris.

Ahhh, beautiful work Chris :) Out of curiosity, is engineering a hobby or a profession for you? Engineering and electronics have been my interests and jobs for many years as apprentices and students of each but Nursing is where I ended up. It pays the bills but does not sate the mind - every time I watch one of your videos, I get the itch to invest in a mill and lathe, as they are the two remaining items to complete my workshop. Unfortunately, they have to compete with a new rigol digital oscilloscope I've been eyeing off as well! Please keep up the great work. Your narration and shooting style make perfect educational videos, I am sure you are inspiring many other people!

Hey Brian, I mostly use High Speed Steel that I grind on the bench grinder. I use hardened tool steel for form tools, and other specialist cutters. Will certainly be making more cutters in the videos in future, cheers mate :)

Would love to see more videos on how you make the cutters. I think you made one a while back but I would love to learn more and see yours process. I assume you are making the tooling from tool steel and grinding it.
