Chris, you mention that the section of the cutter is just a hair from the centerline of the shank. Does that mean that you've left just over half of the original diameter or taken just over half? I was assuming that you meant left just over half, but thought I'd better check to be sure. Also, you mention that some relief behind the cutting edge would be helpful but tricky to get while avoiding damage to the cutting edge. Would it be of any help to relieve the rest of the circumference of the tool, away from the cutting edge, or is it only just behind the cutting edge that counts? Thanks!

A good reminder that we are machinists, we can make a lot of the tools we need. Case in point. I just received my D bit that I bought, waited a week to arrive when I could have made it in an hour or less.
