Hey Chris i'm curious: i donno if you're a clock enthusiast especially but i'm wondering if it's possible to make a large sized tourbillon? I've only ever seen them for watches and i'm wondering if they could be scaled up for desk clocks like this or even larger clocks?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on that Ryan. Its something that occupies a bit of my thinking too, particularly as I record the narration. I tend to switch around based on how it feels to be commenting on the footage; I've noticed that it often just doesn't feel natural to comment in past tense, even though it clearly has all been shot by the time I narrate. Switching from active to passive voice also seems appropriate at times, again I just run with what feels natural to say. Something I noticed when I first started the videos was that a technically correct script often sounded unnatural; breaking a few rules tended to make it more pleasant to read, as well as more pleasant to listen to. But its all a work in progress, so again thanks for sharing - no doubt its something I will continue to play with going forward. Cheers mate :)

Amazing as always! My only critique that I can think of is that you seem somewhat inconsistent in the writing of your narration. Sometimes you use passive voice and sometimes past tense. It irks me slightly, but not enough to stop me from enjoying your videos :)

Absolutely unbelievable! I always like to sit back and enjoy your videos at the end of the day and let your narration carry me through to a blissful state. I didn't even realize it until halfway through the video that you were indeed going to do a full test on the clock today. Yes its getting harder to maintain a pristine mechanism now that oil is involved! The brass is naturally starting to develop a patina too, which is all part of the classic clock finish. I'll bring some of the brass to a high polish, but much of it will be left to naturally age to that rich bronze color typical of antique clocks. It usually takes about 18mths before it develops a uniform color starting from a high polished finish. A good example of it are the movement holders, they have a beautiful smooth color to them now at about 3 years old. The clock is a present for Mrs Clickspring, she has recently bought the glass cabinet that it will live in, so its going to have a nice safe home for at least as long as we have it. Long term, here's hoping it stays well looked after for many hundreds of years!

It's really weird to see your work dirty. Also, I'm very excited to see the clock finished. What are you doing with the clock when your done? I hope your keeping it. It would be one of those rare things nowadays that could be handed down generations. It sure is beautiful.

Cheers Dan!! Yes you're right its become impossible to separate the filming activity from the machining. The best indication I can give is the time it takes me to make the videos. At the moment I estimate between 5 and 8 hours of work (prep, machining, filming, narrating, editing etc) per minute of screen time. Usually the clockmaking/machining is a very small part of that time, but the exception is polishing - that is particularly time consuming!!

Thank you Paul, very pleased!! That sound is the sweetest thing i've heard in a long time!! The camera getting in the way was a bit of a problem for me at the start, but I've become used to it now. I mostly work using the viewfinder when the camera is in close. There's a bit of a latency with the digital image so I'm seeing things slightly delayed, but I'm used to it now.

Wow, As always just amazing work. How many hours went into the pallets. I am thinking days shown to us in a few short minutes. That polish is just amazing. I suddenly realised the camera must always be in your way. How are you able to do the fine filling and have the camera "right there". Never expected a hand made main spring, i had assumed these were always bought due to the dark magic required to make them. You made that look effortless. Clock makes a great noise as well :)
