It makes me worry that you'll tend to increasingly delicate projects that, while beautiful, also consume a massive amount of time. This is why the finest jewelry makers like Faberge delegated a lot to their apprentices. Also, I suggest you send projects like the Antikythera mechanism to a museum, so it can help more people better understand the original. I shudder to think of it at someone's house and getting knocked over by a little kid who accidentally bumps a table. I've seen it happen to antiques.

Off Topic: Since you released the card press video - which I've watched quite a few times now - I scroll through the comments again and again. Nothing but praise. I wonder what it feels like to get 4000+ comments on how great you are (I agree BTW). It feels good, surely. But I guess with so much admiration it's more then just "Hey look they like it".

Hi Bill, the 3 minutes or so in the video were shot over roughly a month, so I think what you're probably seeing is me slowly improving over the weeks after those first cuts! Depending on the nature of the error, there is often opportunity to tidy things up and correct a curve by taking away some more metal as part of the background removal, but of course there is an inevitable limit at which point the design would be compromised. I will do a TGT on this as soon as I can - Cheers :)

This stuff fascinates me, because I've never been able to draw a straight line with a pencil, let alone anything like this. I'm curious; I noticed a couple of minor deviations when you were first scratching the shapes onto the plate, but after you engraved it, they were gone. Is the engraver easier to keep on a smooth trajectory because it's cutting deeper and has some mass behind it, or is it a matter of more concentration, or something else?

The card press idea has been on the to-do list for a few years, and have been working towards a plating setup for a few months, this project was the perfect one to get it all sorted - Cheers :)

What brand/model engraver are you using? I'm saving up for a Lindsay unit. It doesn't use a foot peddle or special controller in a box, just hook up a regulated air supply and the control is in the handle. the harder you push the faster it hammers. Check it out at www.airgraver.com

Second! Also, how do you control the depth of the cut? When you clear out the insides of the suit symbols, it seems like you do a pretty good job of keeping the depth constant. How?
