G'day Paul, When you save and zoom into the photo, you can see that the details are neat triangular prisms, which would not be achievable with acid or electrolysis. Looking forward to this project :) Cheers

At first glance, I thought hygrometer, but on a closer look... no. Something probably useful to you in even later projects for measurements.

It has the classic look of a dial indicator with a 1" range of travel. My guess is a dial indicator.

This looks great. If your looking for ideas I would be open to another "patrons" where you teach core skills and help build a small shop with things like a gingerly lathe but clock work size, forge you already have that covered I believe, would love to see your take mpcnc, it could be a clickspringCNC, etc.. At any rate keep up the best content I have ever seen! For real you could be on the Discovery channel!!

You can hand make balance springs, from scratch, from music wire for the old Verge watches (they only had 2 - 6 coils). It's very satisfying seeing it run accurately with something you shaped with your hands. It involves thinning it to the required dimensions with diamond hones and polishing cream, then curling it with fine pliers, or similarly shaped, sturdy tweezers. :)

Ooh, will be very cool to see what goes into a bespoke dial indicator! ;) Have you considered/tried watchmaking before? Would be really interesting to see you maybe make a pocket watch. Unless you wouldn't want to because you'd need to just buy a fair number of parts off the shelf, like the jewels and balance spring.
