Schottky diode lithium charge test
🕑 Added 2024-03-11 22:38:25 +0000 UTCAn experiment to see what happens when a classic TP4056 module charges a lithium cell with a schottky diode in series with it.
It was to see if it still charged it normally, but stopped sooner at a lower voltage. But it went a bit odd.

..or select a different chip that's programmed to charge to a lower voltage for some alternative lithium chemistry..

Was the idea to simply have CC charge to 80% and no CV charge? I think you might need some intelligence in there (microcontroller). You could have the Schottky (or a normal diode) bypassed by a FET until *you* think charge is done, then remove the bypass. But yeah ... bit of a sledgehammer.

I tried a bypass resistor so it could see the voltage and it still didn't work in a stable manner.

Shouldn't a lithium battery charger first read battery's voltage before charging it. For example because if battery's voltage is less than 2.5V, it should provide low initial current? How is it able to read the voltage with a diode connected in series?
