Nitecore 8 year revisit - still weird - still good
🕑 Added 2025-03-19 18:56:15 +0000 UTCIt's hard to believe that it's 8 years since I first looked at this light. But this time I did a full reverse engineer on it, and the circuitry has a couple of weird bits. Notably the two transistors that most modern designs wouldn't have.
Is this to reduce self discharge leakage back through the charging chip? Or is it because it is such an old design they didn't know they could do things differently?

I've notice they have appeared in your videos for quite some time. I think the reliability of the clones, and the features, might actually make them more expensive or a hassle.

Your Nitecore video 8 years ago changed my life! There were sellers here in Australia that had the proper legit ones for a pretty reasonable price and I bought over a dozen in a bit over a year to give as gifts to people. All my friends and family got really into using them. Then, no stock for ages. I purchased some more a few months ago from AliExpress, and they were the real legit ones, even with serial numbers on the sides (that were actually unique numbers when I got 3 of the same torch in one package)

They've always been quite pricey compared to generic ones. But the clones of these while being cheaper are nowhere near the same quality.

The "remains lit while charging" is a useful feature if the internal battery has run down, you have an external battery with some charge available, and still need the light. I have several other nitecore models where that is a feature I prefer to have.

I bought a 3c cell Cree Led torch form Wilkinsons in a sale about eight years ago, it's made of Aircraft grade aluminium apparently as well, and it was reduced from £29.99 to just £14.99... because the packaging had been torn open ! I still have it in the car just in case, but my word it puts out a tremendous light. I have also had small torches... but I keep losing them! DOH! so to pay £12+ for a small torch that is fantastic ..but I'm guaranteed to lose is a no-no. Graet video though!
