Fixing a Sony audio system
🕑 Added 2025-09-17 00:23:49 +0000 UTCMy brother Ralfy brought across his old music system for repair. It was suffering from intermittent button operation and there was visible corrosion on the bodies of the switches inside.
This video shows the repair of the unit. I don't normally accept home audio products for repair due to their general unserviceability and use of hard to find components. But I'll make an exception for my brother.

I stopped using the tactile switches in my Arduino projects and use the touch switches TTP23 breakout instead. That also saves the denouncing hassle. I got a bunch of the touch switches from eBay some time ago. I ordered 5 but got 50 - I didn't file a complaint :-) I also ordered a bunch of the TTP23 ICs for non breadboard projects. They are a pain to solder though, but so easy to implement that's it worth the hassle.

I still have a MZ-R500 MD Walkman: runs off 1 x AA, ATRAC 3, LP2 and LP4 and optical in (which I used back in the day). Works perfectly!

Clive when I was still a Sony sales and warranty service shop I had to repair a lot items like this . Anyway try your hand at repairing a Sony walkman or Car radio.
