This bulb blew a fuse - let's find out why
🕑 Added 2025-10-19 14:54:05 +0000 UTCThese little downlight bulbs last a decent length of time, but always fail in a dramatic manner and take a fuse out. I wonder if that's partly because the electrolytic capacitor used to smooth the incoming rectified supply is pressed up against the control chip when the module is sleeved with heat shrink sleeving.

You can get solid polymer electrolytics, but I'm not sure if they do them in a high voltage rating.

Is there a substitute yet for electrolytic capacitors, that don't dry out over time, or is this part of the Inbuilt redundancy that will ensure we have to keep replacing stuff- or repairing, because we can?
